In a huge statement, former Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal said, I will thank Captain Amarinder Singh after walking to Patiala barefoot with folded hands if he waives off loan of every farmer. 'If Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh waives off loan of every farmer in Punjab, then i will myself, go to Patiala barefoot with folded hands and thank Captain Amarinder Singh,' said Parkash Singh Badal in a statement. Farmers- the back bone of Punjab agriculture have resorted to committing suicide after being helpless and hopeless from the promises made by Captain led government in Punjab. While some have been fooled with promises, others have lost hope and ended their lives. Meanwhile, many have inherited debt of their fathers who killed themselves due to loan, in the state. Nirvair Singh, a debt-ridden farmer of Bakipur village near here, reportedly attempted to strangulate himself when a team of bank officials came to auction his land, on May 4th. On April 22, a 45-year-old debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide in Punjab's Gurdaspur district. The farmer, who had taken a loan of Rs 7 Lakh, took the drastic step after failing to pay his debts. Farmers have often resorted to raising slogans against the state government for not waiving their loans, but nothing has come their way as a ray of hope. The plight of thousands of farmers has gone unheard in the state even after promises to waive off loan were made by Punjab Chief Minister. -PTC News-
