Garhshankar, February 19: With just a few hours left for the Punjab Assembly elections 2022, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the Garhshankar Assembly segment in Hoshiarpur district Nimisha Mehta has been booked for allegedly trying to influence voters with liquor, money and other freebies. An audio clip of her purported telephonic conversation with a sarpanch has been shared with the police.

After the matter was brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner, it was further forwarded to the SSP for necessary action.
In the audio, a woman can he heard asking someone to distribute liquor and money to win over voters. A case has been registered against Nimisha Mehta and an unidentified person under relevant sections of the IPC and the Representation of the People Act.
The 2022 Punjab Assembly elections are scheduled for February 20 and the results will be declared on March 10.

However, BJP candidate Nimisha Mehta refuted the allegations and described it a plot to malign her image ahead of the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.
The complainant in the case is sub-inspector Rakesh Kumar, who reportedly received the audio clip on his cellphone from a source.
