Punjab elections 2022: Madan Mohan Mittal quits BJP, set to join SAD

Mohali, January 29: In a major setback to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), senior party leader Madan Mohan Mittal quit the party and is set to join the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) later in the day. The move comes ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections 2022. Earlier in the day, Madan Mohan Mittal announced that he will be joining the SAD ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections. Mittal said "his relationship with former Punjab CM and SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal has always been comforting". Not only this, the SAD patron had never taken any decision without consulting him, he claimed. Though SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal is like his child, he, too, like his father Parkash Singh Badal, Mittal said, adding that the SAD president had qualities to be the next Chief Minister of Punjab. Mittal said his son Arvind Mittal was likely to get SAD ticket from Anandpur, though this seat belonged to the BSP. However, as per reports, the SAD is likely to reach a consensus on this issue. The Punjab Assembly elections 2022 are scheduled for February 20 and the results will be declared on March 10.
