Punjab farmer leaders divided over calling off agitation
MSP issue: Even after the repeal of the three farm laws on the first day of the Winter Session of Parliament on November 29, representatives of 32 farmer organisations from Punjab have failed to reach a consensus on calling of the kisan andolan.
The issue has divided the farmer organisations into two factions with one in favour of ending the kisan andolan. As per reports, the registration of FIRs against farmers in Haryana had become a major roadblock.

Meanwhile, farmers leaders are finalising the names that are to be sent to the Central Government for the formation of a committee on MSP. The five names which are doing the rounds are Sucha Singh Gill (farm expert), Balbir Singh Rajewal, Gurnam Singh Charuni (Haryana); Ranjit Singh Raju (Rajasthan) and Yudhvir Singh (UP).
Notably, representatives of 32 farmer organisations from Punjab on Monday welcomed the passage of a Bill to repeal the three farm laws in both Houses of Parliament. They said the Farm Laws Repeal Bill passage in Parliament was victory for them.
However, addressing mediapersons, farmer leaders said a special meeting of the SKM had been called on December 1 to discuss the future course of the farmers' agitation.

Harmeet Singh Kadian, president of the BKU (Kadian) said the meeting that was scheduled for December 4 would go on as decided. "This is an emergency special meeting on December 1 that will be held by representatives of farmer organisations, who went for 11 rounds of talks with the Central Government," he added.
Farmer leaders said their main demands, including legal guarantee for the MSP, electricity waiver Bill and withdrawal of cases against farmers, sent to the Central Government were yet to be fulfilled. The farmer leaders said the Centre had time till November 30 to reply to their demands, following which they will decide their future course of action.
