Punjab government school students yet to get uniforms
Winters are here but students in Punjab have not received their uniform in government schools till date.
According to sources, Education Department has not received funds from the state government to buy new uniforms.
As per Scheme, all students belonging to SC or ST categories and girl students studying in primary and middle schools are given two uniforms in a year. Under the scheme, Rs 400 is being given to government school students every year for uniform.
Due to non payment of funds by state government to the Education Department, students are being forced to wear old uniforms or their parents are shelling out money out of their own pocket to buy new uniforms.
Meanwhile, teachers under the banner of Sarv Shikhsha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) said that education officials are so busy in harassing teachers to accept regularisation that they forgot that winters have approached and lakhs of students are awaiting winter uniforms.
