Punjab records highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases of 2021

Coronavirus Punjab Updates: Punjab on Thursday reported the highest single-day spike of this year as it reported 2,700 new cases of COVID-19 cases and 43 deaths in 24 hours, as per media bulletin issued by the state health department. It comes a day after the health ministry stated that Maharashtra and Punjab are the two states which are of grave concern.

Punjab is one of the major contributors to the active cases of coronavirus in India. It has more than 21,000 active cases as of Thursday. The active cases in the state were around 19,000 on Tuesday while it has surged to more than 21,000 on Thursday. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Punjab has increased to more than 2.21 lakh while the death toll has increased to 6,517.

As of Thursday evening, over 40,000 Covid-19 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while 1,735 patients were discharged taking the tally of recoveries to more than 1.95 lakh, the health ministry stated while giving coronavirus updates from Punjab. Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, SAS Nagar and Amritsar are the top five worst-affected districts with the highest number of active cases. Jalandhar on Thursday reported the highest number of new cases 413, followed by Ludhiana with 340 new cases. Among new deaths, Amritsar reported 2 new deaths, Ferozepur reported 1, Gurdaspur 1, Hoshiarpur 6, Jalandhar 11, Ludhiana 7, SAS Nagar 2, Patiala 2, Sangrur 1, and SBS Nagar 8.
