Punjab still has the lowest power tariff in North, Barring Himachal Pradesh, says Capt

Contrary to the false opposition charges and the deceptive statements carried by a section of the media, the power tariff in Punjab continues to be the lowest in the northern region, except for Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said here on Tuesday. An official spokesperson from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), citing data, pointed out that in the Domestic category, Punjab’s power rate, after revision, stood at Rs. 603 per unit, against Rs. 642 in Haryana, Rs. 765 in Delhi, Rs. 698 in Rajasthan and Rs. 631 in Uttar Pradesh. Himachal Pradesh was the only state in the region providing domestic power at a lower rate of Rs. 470 per unit. In fact, the rate was much higher even in other major states of the country, including Maharashtra (Rs. 991 per unit) and Madhya Pradesh (Rs. 663/unit) and Andhra Pradesh (Rs. 694/unit). Similarly, the NDS or Commercial power rate in Punjab now stands at Rs. 734/unit, as compared to neighbouring Haryana (Rs. 876/unit), Delhi (Rs. 1221/unit), Rajasthan (Rs. 894/unit) and Uttar Pradesh (Rs. 1137/unit), while Himachal Pradesh provides commercial power at Rs. 675/unit). The rate in this category for Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh is, respectively, Rs. 1260/unit, Rs. 884/unit and Rs. 1021/unit). In the Industrial category, the subsidized rate in SP has been capped by the Punjab government at Rs. 499/unit, with the rate in MS and LS industries also being subsidized and frozen at Rs. 5/unit, as already announced by the Chief Minister. In Haryana, the rates for SP, MP and LS industry types are Rs. 687, Rs. 850 and Rs. 814 per unit. The respective per unit rates for Delhi are Rs. 1095, Rs. 1239 and Rs. 1009. Further, the government has also raised the night rebate for industry from Rs 1 to Rs. 1.25 to further incentivise power saving through reduced consumption at night-time, he added. -PTC News
