Rahul Gandhi officially declared Congress president
Rahul Gandhi was named the next president of the Congress on Monday. He will take over from his mother Sonia Gandhi, who has been the longest-serving party president so far, after having taken charge in 1998.
Congress holds press conference. Party election committe head, Mullappally Ramachandran, announces Rahul Gandhi has been elected as party president unopposed.
Returning Officer of the Election Commission M Ramachandran said, “89 nomination papers proposing the name of Rahul Gandhi for Congress president have been received. All the nomination papers have been found valid.”
