Rail-Roko protest: Students demand jobs, block railway tracks in Mumbai Students demand jobs in railways blocked rail traffic, including suburban services on Tuesday morning. It has lead to a major disturbance to the local traffic and to lakhs of commuters, said a Central Railway official. Entire four lines are affected between Matunga and CSMT since the students blocked the rail track on Monday morning. “There has been no recruitment for the past four years. We are struggling from pillar to post. Around 10 students have committed suicide. We cannot let such things happen,” a student who was part of the protest said. “We will not budge from here until and unless Railway Minister Piyush Goyal comes and meets us. Our several prayers made to DRM (Divisional Railway Manager of Mumbai Division) have failed,” another student said. “The Mumbai police, along with GRP and RPF jawans, is having talks with the students and railway’s first priority is to clear the track first,” Chief PRO of Central Railway Sunil Udasi said. Students shouting slogans against railways held placards in their hands demanding one-time settlement from GM quota and said they demanded jobs from the government.
