'Short Clothes Do Not Cause Rapes': Male Volunteers March Wearing Shorts In Delhi

"She was asking for it, she wanted it, her dress was short, those booty shorts though!” Statements like these in relation to a woman’s clothing and their rape have been whirling around since time they were born! Rape survivors have been constantly accused for being raped due to their clothes, the food they eat, the time they step out of the house and the boys with whom they hand out. Making a strong statement against such dimwit arguments and set of notions in the society, male members of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) marched wearing shorts in the streets of the capital. Some male volunteers of DCW's 'Rape Roko' campaign on Tuesday walked the streets of the national capital wearing only their boxer shorts to give the message that 'clothes do not cause rape, sick mentality does'. The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) had launched the 'Rape Roko' campaign after the brutal rape of an eight-month-old baby in January. The volunteers marched from Mandi House to Central Park carrying boards and placards with slogans like "Her clothes are not short, your mentality is" and "What clothes was the eight-month-old baby wearing?" Fueled by anger over the silence of society and government on rapes, the protesters appealed people to join the movement and reach Central Park, Connaught Place at 9.30 am on March 8, observed as International Women’s Day, to form a peaceful human chain. -PTC News
