'Rejection of the SAD nominees is rampant,' says Daljit Singh Cheema

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) headquarters here received today reports from across the state of large scale rejections of the nomination papers of SAD candidates on flimsy grounds and has thus reduced the entire poll process to a farce.

The rejection of the SAD nominees is so rampant at most places suggesting  that the officials concerned had been given explicit directions not to entertain their candidature at any cost, said party spokesman and former minister Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema.

Dr. Cheema pointed that  out of 15 aspirants 18 have been rejected in block Samiti  Valtoha, 20 out of 24 in Bhikhiwind while 70 percent of nominations have been rejected in Taran Taran and 70 percent in Gandiwind block Samiti. Obviously there is a sinister design to deny the democratic right to those not affiliated to the Congress or who dared to oppose the ruling party nominees. Khadoor Sahib, Khemkaran Fatehgar Churian, Kadain,  DinaNagar and Sri Hargoindpur  are facing the  same problems where the papers have been rejected.

However, the malice is not limited to border districts but is evenly spread in other districts of the state in varying degrees. Shockingly, some or other reasons have been concocted or invented to deny right to contest at many places but almost equal number of papers of main or covering candidates have been rejected even without assigning any reason in gross violation of established norms and traditions.

“Never in the past , there had been such rejections for the polls of the Panchayati Raj Institutions suggesting that the  Congress was keen to win the polls by hook and crook and bent on crushing all voices of dissent, he added.

In a letter shot to the state election commission today, Cheema urged  the commission to order a probe for large scale rejections, countermand polls where the nomination papers were wrongly rejected or where administrative obstacles didn’t permit aspirants to file their papers. Besides, Dr. Cheema sought deterrent action against erring officials.  In all , papers of 249 aspirants have been  wrongly rejected by the officials and a detailed list too have been supplied to the Commission.

However, Dr. Cheema exhorted rank and file of the party to work hard and not to be disheartened by the gimmicks of the ruling Congress and desperate attempts to hijack the polls. H e was convinced that the Congress would suffer a humiliating defeat not withstanding their cheap tactics.

Interestingly, the Congress party had first created ruckus and violence at the time of filing of nominations but is unlikely to succeed in its nefarious designs, he added.
