Is Roeland Oltmans heading to Malaysia? Former Dutch, India, and Pakistan coach Roeland Oltmans is in news again. He is in Malaysia amidst speculations that his next assignment may be with Malaysian Hockey. Only last week, Roeland Oltmans said goodbye to Pakistan maintaining that the "climate was conducive". Until 2017 he was firmly in the saddle as the Chief Coach of Indian hockey team. What makes him a Coach in news? Besides India and Pakistan, Malaysia are desperate for an assured berth in The Tokyo Olympic Games. Japan has already booked its place, both in men's and women's section, not only as hosts but the defending Asian Games champions. Roeland Oltmans less than a year association with the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) failed to produce the expected results. Though PHF may have allowed him to continue until the 2018 Odisha Hockey World Cup, Oltmans himself called it a day to pave way for one of the finest center-forwards of yesteryears, Hassan Sardar, to take over the reigns of Pakistan as its Head Coach. Malaysia were certain of making it to Tokyo through Jalarta Asian Games after defeating India in the semis. But Japan snubbed Malaysians with late recoveries to win its first-ever Asian Games title. Roeland Oltmans presence in Malaysia and his recent meetings with the top brass of Malaysian hockey have given strength to the speculations that he may be in the run for taking command of third Asian team in less than two years. Media in Malaysia and elsewhere have been running stories about Oltmans but none is saying the ultimate. It may take a couple of days more before the things come out in the open making it tougher for India, Pakistan and Korea to qualify for Tokyo Olympics with Oltmans coaching Malaysia in the qualifier.-
