Under Rs 20 Lakh Debt, Farmer Takes Poison

Under Rs 20 Lakh Debt, Farmer Takes Poison A 40-year-old farmer who was reeling under debt allegedly committed suicide by consuming poisonous tablets at Talwandi Sabo here on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Shaminder Singh. He was the son of BKU Ekta-Ugrahan Talwandi block president Bachittar Singh Nangla. He is survived by wife and a son. His family told the police that Shaminder and his brother had taken a loan of over Rs 20 lakh from a bank and commission agents. They failed to re-pay the loan, due to which they committed suicide. BKU Ekta-Ugrahan district president Shingara Singh Mann said farmers were ending their lives due to the “anti-farmer” policies of the state government.
