To raise these numbers even more, the automaker is offering significant discounts on several of its vehicles in November 2024. They might reach up to Rs 3 lakh depending on the model.

The Indian automaker is offering up to Rs 3 lakh cash benefits on the top 4x4 variant of the Mahindra Thar. It is worth noting that the petrol models of the lifestyle SUV offer more benefits than the diesel-powered version. The SUV presently starts at Rs 11.35 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level RWD model. The top-spec variant costs Rs 17.60 lakh (ex-showroom).

To be more exact, the Mahindra Thar features three trim levels:  LX, AX Opt, and LX Earth ED. The SUV has two diesel engine options and one petrol engine. There are two diesel engine options: 2.2-litre and 1.5-litre. The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre TGDi known as the Stallion. These power units are combined with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

The Indian manufacturer is providing discounts of up to Rs 3 lakh on the XUV400 EV. These benefits take the shape of cash discounts and exchange bonuses. The Mahindra Bolero Neo is currently available with deals up to Rs 1.20 lakh. The offer includes a cash discount of up to Rs 70,00, an exchange bonus of Rs 20,000, and Rs 30,000 in accessories.

The top-spec 4WD variant of the popular Scorpio N is currently discounted by up to Rs 50,000. The SUV starts at Rs 13.58 lakh (ex-showroom) and ranges up to Rs 24.54 lakh. The XUV700 is also offered with a discount of up to Rs 40,000 exchange bonus.

Ford exited the Indian market in 2021 after struggling to compete in the highly competitive domestic car market, which is dominated by Asian automakers. In 2022, it also halted exports, effectively closing its operations in the country. The company's facility in Chennai had previously been used for producing cars and engines.

Ford’s statement said the plant would be re-purposed for manufacturing vehicles for export to global markets. However, details regarding the specific models to be produced are yet to be disclosed.

This development comes after Tamil Nadu's chief minister hinted earlier in the week that the state and Ford were negotiating to restart manufacturing.

Chief Commercial Officer of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd Vivek Srivatsa said, "Our goal at TATA.ev is to mainstream EVs by making them more accessible. With these special, limited-time prices, we are breaking the high acquisition cost barrier for EVs and positioning them closer to petrol and diesel-powered vehicles."

Tata.ev, which has been focusing on localisation and technological advancements, recently launched the Curvv.ev, achieving price parity with ICE models. The festive offers on the Punch.ev and Tiago.ev further narrow the gap between EV and ICE prices.

Beyond these attractive prices, customers will benefit from low running costs, smooth and silent drives, and advanced features typically found in vehicles from higher segments. As an additional perk, Tata.ev is offering six months of free charging at over 5,500 Tata Power charging stations across India, ensuring hassle-free travel both within and between cities.

These festive offers are valid until October 31, 2024.

The Thar Roxx’s design has evolved significantly, moving away from what many expected. The rear quarter glass now features a triangular shape to accommodate a thicker B-pillar. While this design choice may seem unusual on the hard-top variant, it could enhance the Thar Roxx's appeal in a topless configuration. The SUV also sports a slanted roof, a design element that has sparked mixed reactions online. The alloy wheels have a fresh new design, distinct from the three-door model. Additionally, the circular rear wheel arches from the previous version have been replaced with squarish arches, adding to its robust look.

As the Thar Roxx gears up for its official launch in a few days, details about its engine and gearbox options have emerged. According to a report by Autocar India, the SUV will be available with two engine choices: a 2.0L turbo-petrol and a 2.2L turbo-diesel. The petrol variant will offer two power outputs, 160 Hp and 170 Hp, while the diesel engine will also come in two states of tune, delivering 132 Hp and 171 Hp. Buyers will have the option of a 6-speed manual transmission (MT) or a 6-speed automatic transmission (AT).

The 5-door Thar Roxx is equipped with an advanced suspension system, derived from the Scorpio-N, featuring FSD shock absorbers and a penta-link suspension setup at the rear. It also includes an electronic brake-locking differential on the front and a mechanically locking rear differential. A low-ratio transfer case with a lever, similar to the 3-door Thar, is part of the off-road gear, alongside off-road crawl control and an Intelli Turn Assist feature. The Thar Roxx boasts impressive off-road specs, with a breakover angle of 23.6 degrees, an approach angle of 41.3 degrees, and a departure angle of 36.1 degrees. It also offers a water-wading depth of 650 mm, making it a formidable off-roader.

The Thar Roxx will feature a dual-tone cabin theme and soft-touch materials with contrast stitching on the dashboard. The seats will be upholstered in light-coloured leatherette. A panoramic sunroof, as well as two large screens for infotainment and driver display—apparently borrowed from the Scorpio N—are also highlighted.

However, the teaser suggests that the Thar Roxx might not include the previously speculated dual-zone climate control. A notable addition is the Harman Kardon audio system. In terms of safety, it will be equipped with 6 airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), electronic stability control, and a 360-degree camera. Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) might also be available.

The Mahindra Thar Roxx is likely to be powered by the same engines as the Thar 3-door: a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel unit, though possibly in different states of tune. There is also a possibility of a 1.5-litre diesel engine, similar to that of the Thar rear-wheel drive.

The SUV will come equipped with a 4x4 drivetrain, featuring a low-ratio gearbox, a mechanical locking differential on the rear axle, and a brake-locking front axle. To keep prices competitive, Mahindra might also offer two-wheel drive variants.

Design and Features

In addition to the new headlights and grille, the Thar Roxx teaser reveals a redesigned bumper and new alloy wheels, likely measuring 18 inches and featuring a diamond-cut finish. The increased length due to the longer wheelbase allows for rear doors, improving ingress and egress and providing more space for rear passengers. Lower variants will offer steel wheels. At the rear, while the tail lamp design remains consistent with previous models, the elements have been revised.

Interior and Technology

The feature list for the Thar Roxx has been expanded to include a larger touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, and a sunroof. Expected additions include rear AC vents, a revised instrument cluster, and a front parking camera, all aimed at providing a premium experience.

Pricing

The Mahindra Thar Roxx is expected to be priced competitively, with starting prices around Rs 13 lakh and going up to Rs 25 lakh, ex-showroom.

Mahindra is focusing on delivering a premium yet practical off-roading experience with the Thar Roxx. Veejay Nakra, President of the Automotive Sector at M&M Ltd., commented, "The Thar Roxx, with its distinctive design, premium quotient, advanced technology, enhanced performance, sophistication, and safety, is ‘THE’ SUV. While retaining the core attributes of the iconic Thar, the Thar Roxx represents the larger-than-life personality of a rockstar and will disrupt the SUV category."

M&M announces 4-month-long festive discounts

As the Mahindra XUV700 approaches its three-year anniversary in India, M&M has announced 4-month-long festive discounts of more than Rs 2 lakh on its range-topping AX7 variants.

Starting Wednesday, the AX7 range begins at Rs 19.49 lakh, down from Rs 21.54 lakh. M&M has launched two extra colour options to further increase its appeal. 

Customers now have more options with the introduction of fresh models like the AX5 Select, MX 7-seater, and Blaze edition. The AX7 line includes features such as a Panoramic Sunroof, dual 26.03 cm HD Super-screens, Level-2 ADAS with Adaptive Cruise Control, and a 3D Audio system with 12 Sony speakers.

Mahindra celebrated the manufacturing of the 200,000th unit of the model, just three years after its launch, making it one of the most popular vehicles on the market.

Tata Motors reduces costs by up to Rs 70,000

Tata Motors, too, has reduced costs by up to Rs 70,000 on various models as part of the 'King of SUVs festival'. Tata Motors has dropped the costs of its flagship SUVs, the Harrier and Safari, which now start at Rs 14.99 lakh and Rs 15.49 lakh, respectively. Along with these price decreases, Tata Motors is offering discounts of up to Rs 1.4 lakh on popular SUV models.

The benefits for electric vehicles such as Nexon.ev are up to Rs 1.3 lakhs, while Punch.ev customers can get benefits up to Rs 30,000. These discounts are valid till July 31st. 

Notably, these changes come a day after the Uttar Pradesh government cancelled registration fees for strong hybrid cars, effectively decreasing on-road prices by up to Rs 3 lakh.

The Manaus factory is 9,600 square meters in size and can produce 20,000 units annually in a single shift. It has facilities for testing, car assembly, and engine assembly.

In due future, Bajaj Auto intends to further expand the plant to accommodate an additional 50,000 vehicles per year of production capacity.

The Manaus plant is equipped with different conveyor and transfer systems that connect the various manufacturing stages, as well as automated production lines and integrated quality control systems. When the Dominar models become available for introduction, the facility will primarily concentrate on producing them. Later, it will also start producing Pulsar models.

In June 2023, construction on the Manaus facility began, and a year later the factory was ready for production. With intentions to expand to more product lines, the first phase focused on sourcing, assembling, and testing the Dominar models.

The manufacturing processes of the Manaus site have been certified by ISO. The Brazilian subsidiary of Bajaj Auto, Bajaj do Brasil, has begun obtaining essential motorcycle parts and components from Manaus after effectively integrating local suppliers.

Ola [OLAE.NS] has reduced the price of the cheapest variant of its S1X model to 69,999 rupees (about $839) from 79,999 rupees, according to Anshul Khandelwal, the company's marketing chief. The prices of other S1X variants were reduced by 5.6% to 9.1%.

The SoftBank Group-backed company launched the S1X scooters in August of last year, just months after the government, in an unexpected move, reduced incentives to purchase e-scooters. However, some analysts believe the price cuts will hurt Ola.

"Ola is already selling its higher-end S1X models at a loss. Selling the base variant at a lower price is not financially viable, and it is not something they can do indefinitely," said a Mumbai-based analyst who declined to be identified because they are not authorised to speak to the media.

The Bengaluru-based company sold 326,443 e-scooters in fiscal year 2024. While it exceeded its target of 300,000, it had reduced the estimate by two-thirds.

Ola remains costlier than Ather

Regardless of the price reductions, Ola's cheapest e-scooter is more expensive than the lowest-priced variants of TVS Motor and Hero MotoCorp-backed Ather, which cost over 100,000 rupees.

However, it is less expensive than Honda's Activa, India's best-selling petrol scooter, which retails for 78,000-82,000 rupees.

Powertrain

It is powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-hybrid engine paired with an electric motor generating 72 bhp. In contrast, the total combined power output is approximately 242 bhp, with a torque output of 367 Nm. Furthermore, because of the electric motor, torque can be applied immediately rather than gradually while waiting for the turbocharger to spool up. Meanwhile, the gearbox is a six-speed automatic.

Features inside the cabin include a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen that can be combined with an optional 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster; a computerised rearview mirror system and an optional full-colour head-up display; a rotary shifter; two 14.6-inch entertainment screens for passengers in the backseat; Digital Key 2 for connecting smart devices; and a redesigned dashboard and centre console with fewer physical buttons.

Kia Carnival HEV will be available in four trims: LSX, EX, SX, and SX Prestige. The top trim level is the SX Prestige, followed by the LSX variant.

Tata Punch EV: Price

Tata Punch EV has been unveiled at a starting price of Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-spec variant of the electric SUV costs Rs 14.49 lakh (ex-showroom). 

These are special introductory prices that are only available for a limited time. 

While test rides for the Tata Punch. ev are underway, customer deliveries will begin on January 22. 

Tata Punch EV: Variants and Colours

Tata Punch EV will be available in a variety of colours, including oxide dual-tone, seaweek dual-tone, white dual-tone, grey dual-tone, and red. The vehicle also supports DC fast charging.

It features a Nexon facelift-inspired LED light bar and a similar bumper and grille design. Other notable features include "split LED headlights integrated into the front bumper, a redesigned lower bumper with vertical strakes, and a silver faux skid plate," the company stated.

It will have 360 L of boot space. There is also a 14-litre frunk (front trunk) under the bonnet.

Tata Punch EV: Competitors

It is being billed as a direct competitor to the Citroen eC3. In the entry-segment EV market, the Punch EV will compete with models such as the MG Comet EV and the Tata Tiago EV.

Tata Punch EV: Battery pack (s)

The Tata Punch EV will be available in two battery sizes: 25 kWh and 35 kWh. It will provide customers with two charger options: a 7.2 kW fast home charger (exclusively available for the LR variant) and a 3.3 kW wall box charger.

The 25 kWh battery pack will provide a range (MIDC) of 315 km, while the Punch EV Long Range variant, equipped with a 35 kWh battery pack, will provide a range (MIDC) of 421 km, according to the company.

The battery pack and motor are dust and water-resistant, with an IP67 rating. The company will provide an 8-year warranty or 160,000 kilometres (whichever comes first).

To bring his vision to life, Hadif utilised various materials, including metal sheets, welding techniques, and components sourced from other used vehicles. His resourcefulness and creativity shine through in the meticulous craftsmanship evident in every aspect of the modified car.

Notably, the world of automotive customisation has witnessed other unique transformations, including a BMW car that could change into a 'Transformer,' reminiscent of the iconic alien robots from a popular science fiction Hollywood movie. This viral phenomenon even attracted the attention of industrialist Anand Mahindra, who shared the video on his social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter). Mahindra revealed that the modified vehicle was created in 2016 by a Turkish company called Letvision, further illustrating the global appeal of automotive innovation and customisation.

The uproar began to unfold as vigilant social media users promptly raised concerns about this glaring error. In response to the mounting criticism, MotoGP swiftly issued an apology via its official account on X, formerly known as Twitter, seeking to rectify the gaffe. The official statement expressed remorse, assuring fans in India that there was no intent to make any statement other than that of support and appreciation for their host country.

"We'd like to apologize to our fans in India for the map shown earlier as part of the MotoGP broadcast. It is never our intent to make any statement other than that of support and appreciation for our host country," MotoGP stated in its apology.

The statement continued with a more positive tone, expressing excitement for the IndianOil Grand Prix of India and conveying the organizers' genuine enthusiasm for their first experience at the Buddh International Circuit.

The event's schedule was not disrupted by the controversy, as practice sessions were planned for Friday across all classes, including Moto 2, Moto 3, and MotoGP. Qualifying rounds were slated for Saturday, while the main races were eagerly anticipated for Sunday.

This marks a significant moment for India, hosting a motorsport event of such magnitude for the first time since the 2013 Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix. Unfortunately, that event had to be dropped from the calendar due to financial, taxation, and bureaucratic challenges.

However, the MotoGP's return to India holds promise. Dorna, the organization responsible for MotoGP, and Fairstreet have inked a seven-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to host the MotoGP race in India, signaling a long-term commitment to the Indian motorsport scene.

Earlier this month, the Uttar Pradesh government demonstrated its support by allocating a fund of Rs 8 crore to the 'Invest UP' department for the MotoGP event, following a proposal from Fairstreet Sports. This financial injection, as stated in an official statement from the local Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, was supplemented by efforts to enhance the aesthetics and repair connecting roads to the Buddh International Circuit, ensuring a smooth and successful event.

Taneja, aged 45, has been designated as Tesla CFO alongside his existing position as Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) at the US-based electric vehicle (EV) giant. Kirkhorn, who had served as Tesla's finance chief for the past four years, stepped down from his role.

Kirkhorn's 13-year tenure with Elon Musk's Tesla was marked by significant growth and expansion, according to the company filing. The transition is expected to be seamless as Kirkhorn will remain with Tesla until the end of the year to facilitate the process.

In a LinkedIn post, Kirkhorn expressed his gratitude for the time he spent at Tesla, emphasizing the company's achievements during his tenure. He praised Tesla's employees and Elon Musk's leadership for inspiring innovation.

Vaibhav Taneja has been with Tesla since 2016, serving in various finance and accounting capacities. He has been the Chief Accounting Officer since 2019, Corporate Controller since 2018, and previously held roles at SolarCity Corporation, a solar panel developer acquired by Tesla in 2016.
