A trial flight over Burari successfully demonstrated the system by dispersing silver iodide and sodium chloride into the clouds.


The project is a joint effort between the Delhi government and IIT-Kanpur, with technical support from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and IITM Pune.


Five cloud-seeding trials are planned in northwest Delhi to help reduce particulate pollution during the post-Diwali smog period. The operations have been approved by the DGCA and are being conducted under strict safety and air traffic regulations.


How artificial rain works:

Cloud seeding involves introducing substances such as silver iodide or sodium chloride into clouds. These particles serve as condensation nuclei, enabling water droplets to form and combine into raindrops. The success of the process depends on the presence of adequate moisture in the clouds—typically at least 50 percent humidity.


Aircraft equipped with pyrotechnic flares release these materials safely over targeted areas.


The initiative marks a scientific attempt to combat Delhi’s severe winter pollution by using artificial rain to cleanse the atmosphere of particulate matter.

]]><![CDATA[ Delhi Police foils ISIS module; two operatives arrested, were planning IED attack ]]>PTC News Desk: The Delhi police on Friday busted an ISIS module and arrested two operatives for allegedly planning an IED  blast in the national capital.


The suspects, apprehended in a joint operation by intelligence agencies and special cell were already in their advance stages in executing the plan. The accused were trained to carry out Fidayeen attack, police said.


One of the suspects has been identified as Adnan. The police officials have also seized arms and ammunition. The operation is currently underway with officials expected to dismantle the network and identify other members of the module. 


"The operation was carried out by a team led by Additional Commissioner Pramod Kushwaha and ACP Lalit Mohan Negi," a senior officer said. 


According to the sources, the ISIS-inspired modules are being run under Islamic State and ISP's cover with backing from Pakistan's ISI. 


As police are investigating the suspects, their apprehention is marked as significant development for security and intelligence agencies. 

]]><![CDATA[ Double murder jolts Delhi: Pregnant woman stabbed to death by lover, husband kills attacker ]]>PTC News Desk: A dispute linked to an extramarital affair led to the deaths of two people in central Delhi’s Ram Nagar area. In a shocking sequence of events, a pregnant woman was fatally stabbed by her lover in public, after which her husband killed the attacker.


The victim, Shalini (22), a homemaker and mother of two daughters, was married to Akash (23), an e-rickshaw driver who is now in critical condition. The attacker, Aashu alias Shailendra (34), a known local criminal, was allegedly having an affair with her.


According to police, Aashu claimed that Shalini was pregnant with his child and was furious that she had chosen to stay with her husband.


The incident occurred late last night when Shalini and Akash went to visit her mother near Qutub Road. Aashu suddenly appeared and tried to stab Akash, who managed to dodge the attack. Seeing Shalini in an e-rickshaw, Aashu turned on her and stabbed her several times. When Akash rushed to defend his wife, he too was stabbed, but he managed to overpower Aashu, seize the knife, and kill him.


Shalini’s brother, Rohit, rushed the injured couple to the hospital, while police took Aashu there as well. Both Shalini and Aashu were declared dead on arrival. Akash sustained multiple stab wounds while attempting to save his wife, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan.


The incident caused panic in the locality. A case of murder and attempted murder has been registered based on a complaint by Shalini’s mother, Sheila. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.


Sheila told police that Shalini and Akash’s marriage had gone through a rough patch a few years ago, during which Shalini got involved with Aashu and even lived with him for a time. The couple later reconciled and resumed living together with their two children.



This left Aashu enraged. He claimed to be the father of Shalini's unborn child, police said. Sources suggest Shalini insisted that Akash was the father, and that led Aashu to plan the attack on her and her husband.

]]><![CDATA[ Pollution grips Delhi ahead of Diwali, AQI worsens in several parts of city; experts warn of 'severe pollution' ]]>PTC News Desk: The pollution level seems to be rising in Delhi-NCR ahead of Diwali with the air quality continues to be deteriorating. Several parts of the city have recorded Air Quality Index (AQI) readings in the 'poor and 'very poor' categories.


The air quality plunged further a day ahead of Diwali, with the Akshardham area recording an AQI of 426 - categorised as 'severe' - marking one of the highest pollution levels in the city this season, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Anand Vihar area followed with an AQI of 418. Barapulla reported an AQI of 290 on Sunday morning, falling under the 'poor' category.


In the National Capital Region, Ghaziabad recorded a "very poor" AQI of 324, while Noida (298) and Gurugram (258) remained in the 'poor' bracket.



Water sprinklers have been deployed at the India Gate in order to curb rising pollution levels. The area recorded an AQI of 269 on Sunday morning.


The surge in pollution levels is largely attributed to vehicle emission, which is the city's primary source of pollution, accounting 15.6%, according to Decision Support System. 


The Air Quality Early Warning System has predicted that Delhi’s pollution levels will remain largely unchanged over the next few days, with no signs of improvement as the city approaches Diwali — a period typically marked by worsening air quality due to firecracker use and stubble burning in nearby states.


Weather conditions have also remained stagnant, limiting the dispersion of pollutants. On Saturday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 33.5°C, slightly above normal, and a minimum of 19.6°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) expects clear skies on Sunday, with temperatures ranging between 19°C and 33°C.


As pollution levels have entered the “severe” category in several areas, authorities are likely to step up anti-pollution measures in the coming days to curb the worsening air quality.

]]><![CDATA[ Massive fire engulfs Brahmaputra Apartments housing MPs in Delhi, several fire engines on spot ]]>PTC News Desk: A major fire broke out on Saturday at the multi-storey Brahmaputra Apartments on BD Marg in Delhi — a residential complex inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020 that houses several Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs.


The blaze reportedly started on one of the upper floors, sparking panic among residents. Several fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene to douse the flames.


Located just about 200 meters from the Parliament, Brahmaputra Apartments serves as one of the official accommodations for Members of Parliament. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.



Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale raised an alarm on social media platform X over unavailability of fire tenders at the spot, writing, “HUGE FIRE at Brahmaputra Apartments at BD Marg in Delhi. All residents are Rajya Sabha MPs. The building is 200 meters from Parliament. NO FIRE BRIGADE SINCE 30 mins. The fire is still burning & RISING. Fire engines are missing despite repeated calls. Have some shame Delhi Government."

]]><![CDATA[ Delhi air quality remains in 'poor' category as national capital gears up for Diwali ]]>PTC News Desk: As national capital is gearing up for Diwali, the air quality remained in 'poor' category for the fourth consecutive day on Friday. 


According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the national capital recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 254 at 4 pm, placing it firmly in the ‘poor’ category.


Among the neighbouring NCR cities, Ghaziabad recorded a ‘very poor’ AQI of 306, the worst in the country on Friday. Noida (278) and Gurugram (266) also registered ‘poor’ air quality, while Faridabad (105) remained in the ‘moderate’ range. Ghaziabad had the most polluted air in India on Friday, while Noida, Gurugram, and Delhi, all part of the Delhi-NCR cluster, figured among the country’s top 10 most polluted cities at different positions.

Out of Delhi’s 38 air monitoring stations, five recorded air quality in the ‘very poor’ range. Anand Vihar registered the highest AQI at 382, followed by Wazirpur (351), Jahangirpuri (342), Bawana (315), and Siri Fort (309). According to CPCB data, Delhi’s air quality has been declining steadily since October 14 and continues to worsen each day.

Scenes from across the capital show a thick haze and reduced visibility. Near Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, CPCB readings from Barapullah Bridge showed an AQI of 252, while Akshardham recorded 230. At India Gate, the air quality remained in the ‘poor’ category. To curb dust pollution, truck-mounted water sprinklers have been deployed on major roads and intersections.


]]><![CDATA[ 'Cracker is cracker': Doctors warn of crisis over excessive use of green crackers ]]>PTC News Desk: The Supreme Court on Wednesday cleared the sale and use of green crackers during Diwali in Delhi and nearby cities, effectively lifting its earlier blanket ban imposed due to rising air pollution in the national capital.


While green crackers are considered less harmful than conventional ones, they still contribute to pollution, according to chest surgeons, who called the term “green crackers” a misnomer.


“The word ‘green’ gives a false sense of safety and downplays the risks.” 


“A cracker is still a cracker — burning it will release pollutants. The safest choice is not to burst crackers at all,” the doctor said.


Green Crackers vs. Traditional Firecrackers:

Developed by CSIR-NEERI (National Environmental Engineering Research Institute), green crackers are designed to emit up to 30% less pollution by using fewer raw materials, smaller shells, and special dust suppressants.



Firecrackers, experts explain, are made up of harmful components that make them intrinsically dangerous for both environment and health. 


A firecracker needs fuel, usually charcoal, along with oxidising and reducing agents to trigger an explosion. Heavy metals produce colours, and chemicals regulate burning speed. When burnt, these release toxic gases and fine particles that can cause acute breathing difficulty, trigger asthma and even lead to long-term lung diseases, such as fibrosis or cancer.


"The impact of this is both immediate and far-reaching. Emergency rooms overflow, OPD queues lengthen and exhausted medical teams are forced to stretch beyond capacity. "The problem isn't only the pollution outside, it's the chaos inside hospitals that follows," said one doctor. 


"On Diwali, our staff works round the clock to manage patients gasping for breath. We celebrate the festival of lights, but every year it ends up dimming lives."

]]><![CDATA[ Supreme Court allows green crackers on Diwali in Delhi-NCR, sets time limits ]]>PTC News Desk: The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed bursting of green crackers on the occasion of Diwali in national capital but within a restricted time limit. 

As per the top court's order, firecrackers will be allowed only between 6 am and 7 am, and then from 8 pm to 10 pm.


A bench comprising Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran said that the sale and bursting of only certified green crackers will be permitted within a designated time frame. The bench further added that those found violating the order will face notice. 

Delhi Police have also been directed to constitute patrol teams to conducted frequent monitoring on firecracker manufacturers and sellers. No crackers from outside Delhi-NCR can be sold within the region and if found, the licences of sellers will be suspended.


The apex court also directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to monitor the air quality index (AQI) and asked the board to submit its report after October 20.

In July this year, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) imposed a permanent, year-round ban on the manufacture, storage, sale, and use of all kinds of firecrackers across the National Capital Territory in an effort to curb the city’s chronic air pollution, particularly after Diwali.


Just four months earlier, the Supreme Court had already enforced a similar blanket prohibition on firecrackers — including so-called green crackers — throughout the Delhi-NCR region for an entire year.


]]><![CDATA[ Major festive season blow as shutdown looms large over top three premium Delhi malls ]]>PTC News Desk: Three of South Delhi’s most prominent shopping complexes — DLF Promenade, DLF Emporio, and Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj — are grappling with an unprecedented crisis that could force them to shut down temporarily.


For the first time, these popular shopping hubs — frequented by celebrities, tourists, and luxury shoppers — are facing an acute water shortage that has crippled daily operations.


70% of Toilets Closed, Restaurants Struggling

According to mall management, water supply from the Delhi Jal Board has been disrupted for several days, leaving their storage tanks almost empty. The shortage has become so severe that roughly 70% of toilets are closed, while restaurants are unable to maintain basic hygiene.


Many eateries have been forced to scale down or pause their services altogether, as they struggle with washing dishes, cleaning, and providing drinking water. “We don’t have enough water to maintain sanitation or cleanliness. It’s becoming impossible to serve customers properly,” said a restaurant operator inside one of the malls.


Malls Threaten to shutdown if Crisis Persists

Authorities at the malls have warned that if water supply isn’t restored within two to three days, they may be compelled to halt operations entirely. Such a closure could lead to huge financial losses and threaten thousands of jobs. The Delhi Jal Board has yet to announce when normal supply will resume, and insiders caution that the situation may worsen if swift action isn’t taken.

While addressing the All India Brahmin Conference organised by Shri Brahmin Sabha in northwest Delhi's Pitampura on Sunday, Rekha Gupta said, "Brahmins ignite the flame of knowledge in our society" and every government, irrespective of any party, should work for the welfare of the community."


She further said "Brahmins not only worship scriptures but also weapons."


"If anyone is igniting the flame of knowledge in society, it is our Brahmin community. They worship not only scriptures but also weapons. Only through weapons and scriptures can we protect society and the country today. By igniting the flame of knowledge, propagating religion, and fostering a spirit of goodwill, the Brahmin community has always worked for the benefit of society," she said.


"No matter which government is in power, it should work for the welfare of the Brahmin community to move them forward," she added.

Reacting to Gupta's statement, AAP leader Sanjeev Jha said he was astonished to hear her remarks, which, he said, were insulting the people's sentiments.

]]><![CDATA[ Delhi: Stray dog attacks foreign coaches at JLN Stadium, dog-catching teams deployed ]]>PTC News Desk: Following incidents of stray dog attacks on foreign coaches at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium during the ongoing World Para Athletics Championships, Delhi civic authorities have stepped up security measures at the venue. Officials said on Sunday that four permanent dog-catching teams, along with a Rapid Response Unit and vehicles, have been deployed to safely capture and remove stray dogs from the premises.


The attacks occurred when Kenyan coach Dennis Maragia was bitten near the competition area while speaking to an athlete, and Japanese coach Meiko Okumatsu was bitten shortly after at the warm-up track beside the main arena. Both received immediate first aid at the stadium’s medical facility and were later treated at Safdarjung Hospital. Their conditions are stable.


Maragia described the incident as frightening and unexpected, saying, “The dog came from behind, and I didn’t see it. Even afterward, I saw another dog roaming nearby. I had to take medication, and it has left me shaken.”


In response, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) launched an intensive drive to secure the stadium. A senior MCD official stated that there are 21 entry points at the venue and four teams are stationed there to prevent further attacks. Since September 25, at least 22 stray dogs have been captured. Organising committee member Arnav Ghosh confirmed that a special squad has been patrolling the premises since the incident and all stray dogs have now been removed.


This marks India’s first time hosting the World Para Athletics Championships, and the attacks have raised serious questions about the venue’s preparedness and safety arrangements. Reports also indicate that four security personnel were bitten by stray dogs earlier during the event.


The incidents underscore Delhi’s ongoing struggle with stray dog management. In August, the Supreme Court directed authorities to move street dogs into shelters, later amending the order to allow sterilised and vaccinated dogs to be released back unless they show signs of rabies or aggression.


Authorities have assured that enhanced safety measures are now in place to prevent any recurrence and to protect athletes, coaches, and officials throughout the remainder of the championship.

]]><![CDATA[ Delhi on alert: Airport, schools and other institutions receive bomb threats via e-mail, probe on ]]>PTC News Desk: Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday received a bomb threats via e-mail. In addition to Delhi airport, several schools and other institutions across the national capital aso received similar threats and searches are being conducted. 


The sender claimed to having association with a terrorist group named "Terrorise 111' and warned that bombs had been planted on several locations threatening explosions within 24 hours. 


However the police officials have described the threat as hoax, yet a full scale investigation has been launched. The threat email was sent to between 100 and 150 email addresses belonging to various organisations.


Investigations are ongoing as officials monitor the situation closely.


Meanwhile, the bomb threat at two schools in Delhi, CRPF Public School in Dwarka and Sarvodaya Vidyalaya near Qutub Minar, were declared a hoax by Delhi Fire Services after thorough searches.


"Police teams, fire personnel, and bomb disposal units were promptly deployed to the affected schools to carry out a search operation properly. However, nothing suspicious was found," the official said.

]]><![CDATA[ Delhi 'Baba' accused of sexually assaulting 17 women, arrested from Agra ]]>PTC News Desk: A self-proclaimed ‘godman’ accused of sexually harassing 17 women at a Delhi ashram has been arrested in Agra. Identified as Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati—also known as Partha Sarathy—he posed as the ‘director’ of the Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management, a private institute in Delhi’s upscale Vasant Kunj. Complaints against him include verbal abuse, sending obscene text messages, and unwanted physical advances.


Chaitanyananda was taken into custody around 3:30 am from Hotel First in Agra’s Taj Ganj area, after evading arrest for 50 days. He had fled on August 4, shortly after the institute received a complaint forwarded from the Air Force headquarters.


The First Information Report (FIR) states that the institute initially received a letter from an alumnus alleging sexual harassment of students. The following day, a Group Captain from the Air Force Directorate of Education emailed the institute with further complaints, accusing the ‘Baba’ of intimidation and vulgar messaging. The Air Force intervened because many students at the institute were children of Air Force personnel.


In early August, 17 women filed a collective complaint at Defence Colony Police Station, accusing the so-called godman of harassing post-graduate management diploma students enrolled under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) scholarship category.

]]><![CDATA[ BMW Delhi crash: Accused Gaganpreet Kaur granted bail, told to surrender passport ]]>PTC News Desk: A Delhi court on Saturday granted bail to BMW crash accused Gaganpreet Kaur that killed Finance Ministry official Navjot Singh and critically injured his wife. The court has directed the accused to surrender her passport and  to furnish a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh.


The Patiala House Court heard the case on Saturday. Before pronouncing the verdict, the court said an ambulance reached the spot of the accident within seconds, and it remained there for at least 30 seconds and did not take the injured to the hospital.


The court stated that the case appears to be a case of medical negligence as the ambulance with paramedics onboard, had the duty to transport the injured to the hospital. 



Earlier this month, Gaganpreet Kaur, 38, was arrested by police as she was driving the BMW that rammed into Navjot Singh, 52, and his wife in Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan. Navjot Singh, a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, was killed after his motorcycle was struck while he was returning from the Bangla Sahib Gurdwara. His wife suffered grievous injuries in the crash.

]]><![CDATA[ 17 women accuse ashram 'Baba' of molestation, his car bears fake embassy plates ]]>PTC News Desk: The director of a renowned ashram in Delhi's Vasant Kunj area has been accused of sexual harassment by over a dozen students, said police.


Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, also known as Parth Sarathy of the Sri Sharda Institute of Indian Management, has been booked by the police for allegedly harassing students enrolled in management diploma courses under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) scholarship category.


According to police, at least 17 female students have accused him of using abusive language, sending obscene messages, and engaging in inappropriate physical contact. The victims further claimed that certain women faculty members and administrative staff pressured them to comply with his demands, while some wardens at the ashram allegedly facilitated their introduction to him.


Based on these allegations, police registered a case of sexual harassment and related offences against Swami Chaitanyananda, South-West District Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Goyal confirmed.


Police have examined CCTV footage and conducted raids both at the crime scene and at the accused’s residence, but Swami Chaitanyananda remains absconding. Sources indicated he was last traced near Agra, and multiple police teams are currently pursuing him.


Following the allegations, the ashram administration dismissed him from his position and expelled him from the premises.


During the probe, police discovered a Volvo car in the institute’s basement that Chaitanyananda regularly used. Checks revealed the vehicle carried a fake diplomatic number plate (39 UN 1), and it has since been seized. The ashram unit he oversaw is linked to a major ashram in South India, with the Delhi branch running two batches of over 35 students each.

]]><![CDATA[ Delhi horror: Four-year-old battling for life after thrown off 30-ft cliff by teen neighbour to seek revenge from mother ]]>PTC News Desk: A four-year-old boy is battling for his life after being kidnapped, pushed off a 30-foot cliff, and attacked with a rock by a 15-year-old in Delhi’s Anand Parbat forest area. The teenager has been taken into custody and allegedly confessed that he wanted revenge against the child’s mother over an incident that led to his own father scolding him.


Police were alerted on September 17 after the boy went missing. His mother reported that he vanished around 6:30 pm after returning from tuition classes and playing near their home. Despite an extensive search, he could not be found, prompting police to register a kidnapping case under Section 137(2) of the BNS.


CCTV footage later revealed the minor being led away by the teenager, whom the child’s mother immediately identified as their neighbour. The accused was arrested from his house. Police said the 15-year-old had dropped out after Class X, and both families live in the same rented property where they also run shops.


The motive behind this violent act was the physical punishment that the teenager faced from his father after he took landlord's bike without taking permission on September 17 and abandoned it in another area. The 4-year-old 's mother informed the landlord about the same. The aggrieved teenager then lured the child away when he was playing and took him to a forested areas in Ramjas Park. 


He then pushed the child off a cliff and then subjected him to physical torture with an intent to inflict serious injuries. 

]]><![CDATA[ Delhi police arrests 63 individuals in overnight raid in major drugs crackdown; weapons and drugs seized ]]>PTC News Desk: In a major crackdown, Delhi police arrested 63 individuals in an overnight raid across multiple locations in the national capital in a massive crackdown on drugs. 


The arrests were made within 24 hours under 'Operation Aaghat', which involved 500 police personnel and 40 specialised teams, led tot he recovery of 15 pistols along with significant quantities of MDMA, cocaine, heroine, and cash. 


The operation targeted large scale criminal network operating in the South East Delhi region with an objective to mitigate illegal activities including drug trafficking and arms possession. 

Delhi police has intensified its clampdown over drug nexus operating out of the state and attempts to dismantle the same are underway. The police is focusing on the financial backbone of drug cartels, adopting a zero-tolerance policy against drug-related crimes. 

]]><![CDATA[ Panic grips Delhi after multiple schools receive bomb threats, search operations underway ]]>PTC News Desk: A wave of panic gripped Delhi -NCR after multiple schools received bomb threats on Saturday.


“We are thoroughly checking the campuses. Nothing suspicious has been found yet,” a senior police officer said, adding that search operations were continuing at the affected schools.


Authorities said the schools that received the threats included Delhi Public School (DPS) in Dwarka, Krishna Model Public School, and Sarvodaya Vidyalaya.


Police teams and bomb disposal squads were immediately dispatched, while students and staff were evacuated as a safety measure, officials stated. The police added that investigations are underway to trace the origin of the threats and determine if they were part of a planned effort to spread panic.

Aryan secured 28,841 votes, while NSUI’s Joslyn managed 12,645. Of the four posts, ABVP won three — President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary — but lost the Vice President’s seat. NSUI’s Rahul Jhansla won the Vice President’s post.

The Delhi University Student Union elections witnessed a massive footfall with over 2.75 lakh votes cast across 50 constituent colleges. Polling was concuted at 52 centres with 195 booths, where 711 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were deployed. The final turnout stood at 39.45 percent.
