Chhath Puja is mostly celebrated in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, as well as by the expatriate population.

The festival celebrates the Sun god (Surya) and Chhathi Maiya (Mother Shashti), whom many believe to be the Sun's sister. The holy festival lasts four days and includes strict rituals and fasting to express gratitude to the Sun god for supporting life on Earth.

This year's festival will kick off on November 5 and conclude on November 8.

Chhath Puja 2024: Rituals

The festival kicks off with Nahay Khay (bathing and feasting), in which people take a ritual bath and consume a simple meal. The following day, devotees observe Kharna, which involves fasting all day and breaking it only after sunset as an offering to the deities.

The person observing the fast eats roti (chappati) and kheer (rice pudding) before gathering with family and friends to share the same meal on a banana leaf.

On the third day, the main ritual, which is highly revered, takes place. Devotees, generally women, gather around sources of water, such as rivers or ponds, before sunrise. Standing waist-deep in water, they chant hymns and prayers while offering arghya (water offerings) to the rising Sun. This unique feature of Chhath Puja represents purity, self-discipline, and the continuity of life. The setting (Usha) Sun sees another round of arghya, this time bidding farewell to the day.

Chhath Puja 2024: Date and Timings

Nahay Khay: November 5 from 6:36 AM till 5:33 PM

Kharna: November 6 from 6:37 AM to 5:32 PM

Sandhya arghya: November 7 from 6:38 AM to 5:32 PM

Usha arghya: November 8 from 6:38 AM to 5:31 PM

When is Chhath Puja 2024? This day, known as Dhantrayodashi, is devoted to Lord Dhanvantari, the god of health and Ayurveda, who is said to have emerged from the ocean at the Samudra Manthan with the elixir of immortality.

The word "Dhanteras" is derived from two words: "Dhan," which means wealth, and "Teras," which refers to the 13th day of the Hindu lunar calendar. Dhanteras paves the way for Diwali, the festival of lights.

Many people purchase gold, silver, and brass utensils, as well as electronic items, to bring prosperity and blessings to the gods.

Interestingly, buying a broom on Dhanteras is also considered very auspicious. While buying precious metals is common, the simple broom holds symbolic value during this festival.

Why is it lucky to buy a broom on Dhanteras?

Buying a broom is considered to keep Goddess Lakshmi from leaving one's home. Bringing a broom home on Dhanteras is also said to help you get rid of your debts and bring pleasure and wealth. Every family uses brooms on a regular basis to keep their homes clean. Cleanliness is considered to attract Goddess Lakshmi. This is why buying brooms during Dhanteras is considered auspicious.

Other items you can buy on Dhanteras

Gold and silver coins

Gold or silver coins with Lakshmi-Ganesh etched on them are among the most popular Dhanteras purchases. Precious metal coins are more affordable than gold jewellery, which is expensive. The purchase is auspicious, and the coins may be placed in the puja area.

Gold/silver jewellery

People wait all year to buy valuable jewellery on Dhanteras so they can enjoy the spiritual benefits of this auspicious day. Purchasing gold jewellery is an investment in itself, which makes it feel much more expensive. Gold jewellery is essential for Indian occasions such as weddings, so get it on these auspicious days to infuse even more heavenly benefits.

Utensils

What appears to be a more ordinary purchase for practical reasons has a deeper spiritual significance. Dhanteras represents renewal and warding against evil. The kitchen is an important area for running the household and preparing food, therefore replacing the utensils brings prosperity and benefits into the home. It is also said that Goddess Lakshmi blesses food prepared using Dhanteras utensils.

Spiritual Idols: Purchasing spiritual idols on Dhanteras is seen to be advantageous

Home Decor Items: Buying decorative items is seen as a way to invite positive energy and prosperity

Electronic Items: Purchasing electronic appliances on Dhanteras is considered lucky and fortunate

Precious Stones: Acquiring gemstones or precious stones is considered auspicious as it's believed to bring good fortune

Dhanteras 2024: Why buying 'broom' on Dhantrayodashi is lucky? The celebrations align with the Poornima Tithi, which starts at noon on November 15 and ends at 5:10 pm on November 19. The Pradosh Kal Dev Diwali Mahurat, a significant time for prayers, will be from 5:10 pm to 7:47 pm on November 26, 2024. Varanasi holds special importance for the festival, where the holy ghats are illuminated, and rituals are performed to honor Lord Shiva.

Why is Dev Diwali celebrated?

Dev Diwali commemorates Lord Shiva's victory over the three demons, Vidyunmali, Tarakaksha, and Viryavana—collectively known as Tripurasura. After receiving a powerful boon from Lord Brahma, these demons wreaked havoc on Earth, causing chaos and destruction. To restore peace, Lord Shiva assumed the form of Tripurari and destroyed the demons with a single arrow. This act is celebrated as a victory of good over evil.

Apart from this, some people observe Dev Diwali as the birth anniversary of Lord Karthik, the God of War and son of Lord Shiva. Others believe it marks the day when Lord Vishnu incarnated in his first form, "Matsya," or fish.

In addition to its religious significance, Dev Diwali in Varanasi is also a day of patriotic tribute. On this day, the martyrs of the Indian armed forces are honored at the ghats, remembering those who laid down their lives for the nation.

Dev Diwali celebration

Dev Diwali holds immense value in Varanasi, where devotees from across the country gather to witness the spectacular event. The day begins with "Kartik Snan," where devotees take an early morning dip in the holy waters of the Ganga River. Homes are decorated with rangoli, candles, and diyas. Devotees often recite the Akhand Ramayan, and the Bhog (offerings) is distributed.

The grand highlight of the festival is the lighting of diyas along the ghats of Varanasi, Rishikesh, Haridwar, and other holy cities. Thousands of earthen lamps line the banks of the Ganga, creating a stunning display of light and spirituality. The day culminates with the Ganga Aarti, a powerful and moving ritual where priests chant holy mantras and perform synchronized movements with large oil lamps, creating a divine spectacle.

Significance of Dev Diwali in Varanasi

For devotees, Varanasi is the ultimate spiritual destination, especially during Dev Diwali. The festival is characterized by a day-long fast that wives observe for the long life and well-being of their husbands, breaking their fast only after sighting the moon. In 2024, the moon is expected to be visible between 7:50 pm and 9:05 pm, adding a special significance to the occasion.

Cultural Significance of Karwa Chauth

Karwa Chauth is predominantly celebrated in the northern regions of India and symbolises deep devotion, commitment, and love between spouses. While traditionally observed by married women, the festival has seen a growing participation from men, who now often join their wives in fasting, showcasing a modern shift in marital dynamics.

Origins of the festival

The term "Karwa" refers to an earthen pot, and "Chauth" signifies the fourth day. Women perform a ritual known as 'Argya' using an earthen pot to honor the moon on the fourth day of Kartik, according to the Hindu lunar calendar. Consequently, Karwa Chauth falls between late October and early November each year.

The detailed timings for Karwa Chauth are as follows:

Karwa Chauth Date: October 20, 2024

Puja Muhurta: 5:46 pm to 7:02 pm

Duration of Puja: 1 hour and 16 minutes

Fasting Time: 6:25 am to 7:54 pm

Duration of Fasting: 13 hours and 29 minutes

Krishna Dashami Moonrise Timing: 7:54 pm

Legends behind Karwa Chauth

Numerous stories and legends are associated with Karwa Chauth, with the tale of 'Veeravati' being particularly well-known. According to this ancient legend, Veeravati, a queen and the only sister of seven brothers, observed her first Karwa Chauth after her marriage.

As the day progressed, she grew weak from hunger and thirst, prompting her brothers to devise a plan. They used a mirror to trick her into believing that the moon had risen, leading her to break her fast. Tragically, shortly after, she received news of her husband's death.

Distraught, Veeravati prayed to Mata Parvati, who revealed that her fast was incomplete due to the trickery of her brothers. Realising her mistake, Veeravati observed another fast, pleading with Yama, the god of death, to revive her husband. Once her fast was fulfilled, her husband returned to life, and Veeravati vowed to observe Karwa Chauth every year thereafter.

Another popular story features a devoted wife named 'Karwa,' who bravely confronted a crocodile that had attacked her husband while he bathed in a river. Demonstrating her loyalty and courage, she tied the crocodile with a cotton thread and implored Lord Yama to spare her husband's life. Impressed by her devotion, Yama granted her wish, sending the crocodile to hell in the process.

These stories illustrate the lengths to which women go for their husbands' well-being and exemplify the enduring strength of love.

Karwa Chauth rituals

The rituals of Karwa Chauth have remained unchanged over generations. While many may believe the festivities only involve fasting and moon-gazing, the day begins well before sunrise with a series of rituals that engage the entire family.

Beginning with Sargi

The day starts early, with mothers-in-law preparing a nourishing meal known as Sargi for themselves and their daughters-in-law before dawn. This meal typically includes fruits, dry fruits, sweets, parathas, and curries, ensuring the women are well-fed before they commence their fast, which lasts from sunrise to moonrise. This ritual is not only about nourishment; it also fosters a bond between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law.

The fasting period

Women observe a strict fast without food or water, dedicating their day to prayers for their husbands’ health and longevity. As the day progresses, they dress in their finest attire, usually in shades of red or green, and adorn themselves with jewelry, often gold or platinum, along with henna designs on their hands. The attire symbolises their devotion and love.

The main puja

As evening approaches, the Karwa Chauth puja takes center stage. Women gather in circles with their beautifully decorated Karwas, filled with water and a small diya, symbolizing light and warmth. During the puja, the narrative of Veeravati, Karwa, or Savitri is recounted, emphasizing the importance of devotion. Women pass the Karwas around while chanting prayers and mantras, seeking blessings for their husbands.

Breaking the fast

The fast concludes with the sighting of the moon. Women typically go to rooftops or balconies to catch a glimpse of the moon through a sieve or chunni. Afterward, they look at their husbands through the sieve, symbolically transferring blessings. The husbands then offer their wives water and a sweet morsel to mark the end of the fast.

Changing perspectives on Karwa Chauth

In recent times, there has been a shift in how Karwa Chauth is perceived. Many argue that Bollywood has romanticised the festival, portraying it as a grand occasion filled with love and devotion. This has led to a reevaluation of the traditional portrayal of wives making sacrifices for their husbands.

Additionally, the festival has transcended cultural boundaries, with non-Hindu and non-North Indian families also celebrating Karwa Chauth as a day to honor marital love.

Men breaking stereotypes

Interestingly, many men are now participating in Karwa Chauth rituals, fasting for their wives as a gesture of mutual love and respect. This evolving tradition highlights a shift in relationship dynamics, where both partners actively contribute to their bond, moving beyond the conventional expectations of gender roles.

As Karwa Chauth approaches, it serves as a reminder of the enduring love, commitment, and evolving traditions that shape the festival, making it a celebration of not only devotion but also mutual respect in marital relationships.

Also Read: Karwa Chauth 2024: 5 key rules for healthy fasting and hydration you need to follow

Karwa Chauth 2024: Know moonrise timings and puja muhurat for your city

https://www.ptcnews.tv/top-stories/karwa-chauth-2024-5-key-rules-for-healthy-fasting-and-hydration-you-need-to-follow-4400066

Karwa Chauth 2024: 5 key rules for healthy fasting and hydration you need to follow

https://www.ptcnews.tv/top-stories/karwa-chauth-2024-5-key-rules-for-healthy-fasting-and-hydration-you-need-to-follow-4400066

Thu, 17 Oct 2024 17:14:13 +0530

Karwa Chauth 2024: Karwa Chauth, celebrated on October 20, is a significant festival for married women in India, dedicated to praying for the well-being and longevity of their husbands. Observing a strict fast, often without water, can be challenging, but with the right approach, you can maintain your health and energy levels throughout the day.

Here are five essential rules for healthy fasting and hydration during Karwa Chauth.

1. Plan a nutritious sargi

The day before the fast, women traditionally consume Sargi, a pre-dawn meal prepared by their mothers-in-law. This meal is crucial for sustaining energy throughout the day. To create a balanced Sargi meal that keeps you energized and hydrated, include:

Fruits: Opt for bananas, apples, and papayas, which provide natural sugars and hydration, essential for energy reserves.

Nuts and Seeds: Incorporate almonds, walnuts, and chia seeds, as they offer healthy fats and protein that help you feel full longer.

Complex Carbohydrates: Include whole grain bread or oats, which provide lasting energy without causing rapid fluctuations in blood sugar levels.

A well-planned Sargi meal can make a significant difference in how you feel throughout the fasting period.

2. Stay hydrated before sunrise

Hydration is crucial for a successful fast. Prior to beginning your fast at sunrise, focus on drinking plenty of water or consuming hydrating foods during Sargi. Aim for at least 2-3 glasses of water before the fast begins to help your body retain fluids throughout the day. Hydrating foods like cucumbers and watermelon are also excellent choices that contribute to your overall fluid intake.

3. Avoid caffeine and sugary drinks

While it might be tempting to have tea or coffee during Sargi, it’s wise to limit or eliminate caffeine. Caffeine can lead to dehydration and may cause headaches during the fast. Instead, choose herbal teas or coconut water, which offer hydration and essential nutrients without the adverse effects associated with caffeine.

4. Listen to your body

Throughout the day, be attentive to your body's signals. If you begin to feel dizzy or excessively fatigued, it's important to acknowledge these signs. Engage in light activities and avoid strenuous tasks. Whenever possible, take breaks to relax and meditate, which can help keep your mind calm and focused on the spiritual significance of the fast.

5. Break your fast gently

After the moonrise, it's time to break your fast. Begin with light foods that are easy to digest, such as fruits or a small serving of sweets. Afterward, drink a glass of water to rehydrate. Gradually introduce other foods, steering clear of heavy or greasy items initially to avoid digestive discomfort. This gentle approach allows your body to readjust after a day of fasting.

By following these Karwa Chauth fasting tips for 2024, you can ensure a healthy and fulfilling observance of this significant festival. Prioritise hydration, plan nutritious meals, and listen to your body for a spiritually enriching experience. He was a renowned poet known for writing the Hindu epic Ramayana.

People often commemorate the day by chanting Ramayana verses at Valmiki temples around the country. The most prominent Valmiki temple is located at Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. According to legends, this 1300-year-old temple was built where Valmiki slept after writing 24,000 shlokas and 7 cantos of the Ramayana.

When Lord Rama exiled Sita and people began to question her virtue, it was Valmiki who offered the pregnant Sita shelter at his place. Valmiki is also known as the Adi Kavi, or the earliest poet of the Sanskrit language.

Maharshi Valmiki's birth anniversary is observed every year on Ashwin Purnima, according to the Hindu lunar calendar. This year, Valmiki Jayanti is celebrated on October 17.

Story of Maharishi Valmiki

Valmiki was born as Ratnakar and was a dacoit who robbed and killed people. His encounter with Narada Muni changed his life, as he advised him to chant the word Rama. However, Ratnakar could not bring himself to chant the word despite repeated efforts, so Narada instructed him to utter 'Mara' instead, which is Rama spelt backwards in Hindi.

The Mara eventually turned Rama, and his penance lasted several years, as anthills formed around him. Lord Brahma was pleased with Ratnakar's penance and blessed him, naming him Valmiki.

Along with numerous years of penance, he learnt scriptures from Narada and was later rechristened Maharshi Valmiki. As his new life began, Valmiki, moved by the sorrow of a female bird over the death of her companion, recited his first shloka, and thus his writing journey began. However, it wasn't until Lord Brahma gave him the responsibility of authoring the Ramayana that he realised his true purpose in life.

According to the Ramayana, Lord Rama met Valmiki during Vanvasa, his period of exile, and later provided Sita Mata shelter in his hermitage after Rama banished her. Lord Rama's twin sons, Kusha and Lava, were born in his hermitage, where he taught them both the Ramayana.

Valmiki Jayanti 2024: Know story of Ramayana's author Maharishi Valmiki

https://www.ptcnews.tv/nation/dussehra-2024-wishes-quotes-images-whatsapp-status-to-share-with-loved-ones-4399649

Dussehra 2024: Wishes, quotes, images, WhatsApp status to share with loved ones

https://www.ptcnews.tv/nation/dussehra-2024-wishes-quotes-images-whatsapp-status-to-share-with-loved-ones-4399649

Sat, 12 Oct 2024 10:54:55 +0530

Dussehra 2024: Dussehra, also known as Dasara, is a Hindu festival celebrated every year. On this day, Lord Ram killed Ravana, the ten-headed demon king, freeing his slaves as well as his w

Dussehra 2024: Dussehra, also known as Dasara, is a Hindu festival celebrated every year. On this day, Lord Ram killed Ravana, the ten-headed demon king, freeing his slaves as well as his wife Sita, whom Ravana had abducted.

Here are some images and messages to share with your loved ones.

Happy Dussehra 2024: Wishes

Wishing you a joyous and prosperous Dussehra filled with happiness and success. If other countries followed India's consumption patterns, the world would need less than one Earth to meet food demands, making it a model for sustainability.

In contrast, countries such as Argentina, Australia, and the United States were shown to have the least sustainable patterns.

According to the report, if all nations adopted the G20 countries' consumption habits by 2050, food-related greenhouse gas emissions would surpass the 1.5°C climate target by 263%, requiring one to seven Earths to sustain food production. However, given India's dietary preferences, the world would require less than one Earth (0.84), which is much better than the established planetary boundary for food systems.

"If everyone in the world adopted the current food consumption patterns of the world's major economies by 2050, we would exceed the 1.5°C climate target for food-related greenhouse gas emissions by 263%, and it would take between one and seven Earths to support us," the report says, referring to India's Millet Mission.

Argentina's food consumption, on the other hand, would require 7.4 Earths, making it the worst of the countries surveyed, trailing only Australia and the United States. Meanwhile, Indonesia and China performed well, but India led the way with the most environmentally sustainable food system.

The research praised India's National Millet Campaign for promoting climate-resilient grains like millet, which are not only nutritious but also more adaptable to shifting climates. It recommended governments embrace more sustainable diets, recommending alternative proteins such as legumes, plant-based meats, and nutrient-dense algae to lessen the environmental effect of food production.

"In some nations, promoting traditional foods will be a key tool for shifting diets. For example, India's National Millet Campaign aims to boost national consumption of this ancient grain, which is beneficial to health and highly robust in the face of climate change," it says.

According to the report, local cultural traditions, individual choices, and food availability will all have a significant impact on achieving healthy and nutritious diets.

"Eating more sustainable diets would reduce the amount of land needed for food production. Grazing land, in particular, could be freed up for other purposes, including nature restoration and carbon sequestration."

'India's food habits are good for Earth': WWF says replicating Indian diet would significantly reduce climate impact

https://www.ptcnews.tv/trending/world-mental-health-day-2024-burnout-low-productivity-prioritise-mental-health-4399440

World Mental Health Day 2024 | Burnout, low productivity & beyond: Why employers must prioritise mental health?

https://www.ptcnews.tv/trending/world-mental-health-day-2024-burnout-low-productivity-prioritise-mental-health-4399440

Wed, 09 Oct 2024 14:08:13 +0530

PTC News Desk: World Mental Health Day is observed on October 10th every year. The day helps in raising awareness about mental health issues and mobilises efforts in support of mental health.

This year the theme of World Mental Health Day is "Mental Health at Work." Employees are facing huge mental health pressures as the world struggles with economic uncertainties, climate crises and pandemics. This year’s theme sheds light on the urgent need for companies to prioritise their workforce's mental well-being.

Mental health crises at work

The World Health Organisation (WHO), collaborating with its partners, highlights the crucial link between mental health and the workplace. Workplaces that are safe and supportive are more likely to promote mental health. However, unhealthy factors such as stigma, discrimination, harassment, and bad working conditions can all have a negative impact on mental health. These issues can have an adverse effect on overall quality of life, job participation, and productivity.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) says that around 15 percent of working-age persons suffer from a mental health issue. According to International SOS, the most common issues are anxiety, depression, panic disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and acute stress.

Burnout is extremely common, with one in every four employees worldwide reporting symptoms. The International SOS Risk Outlook 2024 sees burnout as a key danger to organisational health. These difficulties not only affect individual employees, but also impair productivity, engagement, and morale, all of which have a negative impact on the bottom line.

Economic cost of neglecting mental health

The results of neglecting mental health extend beyond human suffering to a major financial cost. According to the World Health Organisation, anxiety and depression alone cost the global economy $1 trillion in lost productivity each year, equivalent to 12 billion working days. This sends a clear message to businesses: failing to treat mental issues harms not only staff but also financial performance.

World Mental Health Day 2024 | Burnout, low productivity & beyond: Why employers must prioritise mental health?

https://www.ptcnews.tv/lifestyle/navratri-2024-9-days-9-types-of-bhog-to-offer-9-avatars-of-goddess-durga-4398977

Navratri 2024: 9 days, 9 types of bhog to offer 9 avatars of Goddess Durga

https://www.ptcnews.tv/lifestyle/navratri-2024-9-days-9-types-of-bhog-to-offer-9-avatars-of-goddess-durga-4398977

Thu, 03 Oct 2024 09:06:27 +0530

Navratri 2024: The festival of Shardiya Navratri has begun. The nine-day festival is devoted to the worshipping of Goddess Durga's nine avatars.

This year, the festival begins on October 3 and will last until October 11, with October 12 marked as Vijaydashmi or Dussehra. During these nine days, 9 avatars of Maa Durga are worshipped.

Maa Durga's nine avatars are Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmacharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Maa Skandamata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kalaratri, Maa Mahagauri, and Maa Siddhidatri.

The festival also fosters a sense of community and cultural identity. It is celebrated with dance, music, and various local traditions that highlight the vast diversity of Indian culture.

Navratri Bhog 2024

Day 1: Maa Shailputri

On the first day, devotees worship Maa Shailputri, who symbolises purity and new beginnings. She rides bull Nandi while holding a Trishul and a lotus.

Kheer (sweet rice pudding), milk-based desserts and coconut water are among the recommended bhogs. Offering these foods is said to improve health and vitality in one's life. It is stated that offering pure desi ghee on this day blesses followers with good health.

Day 2: Maa Brahmacharini.

The second day is dedicated to Maa Brahmacharini, a goddess of knowledge and devotion. She walks barefoot, holding a Rudraksha mala in one hand and a Kamandalu in the other. On this day, devotees offer sugar as bhog, to increase knowledge and ensure a long life free of untimely death.

Day 3: Maa Chandraghanta.

On the third day, devotees celebrate Maa Chandraghanta, who represents peace and courage. Goddess Chandraghanta is a strong 10-armed goddess who wears a crescent moon on her forehead.

Her bhog includes milk, kheer, and other milk-based delicacies. It is common to donate these offerings to temples or the poor after offering them to the goddess, who is said to relieve pain and bring joy.

Day 4: Maa Kushmanda

The fourth day celebrates Maa Kushmanda, who is associated with intelligence and success. Devotees serve malpua, a sweet flatbread prepared with flour and jaggery. Feeding malpua to Brahmins on this day improves decision-making skills and increases wisdom.

Day 5: Maa Skandamata

On the fifth day, Maa Skandamata is celebrated as the goddess of compassion and motherhood.

Goddess Skandamata has four arms and has a lotus in two of them, as well as a sacred Kamandalu and a bell in the other two.

Devotees offer bananas as bhog, representing health and well-being. Offering bananas is believed to confer lifelong health on the devotee.

Day 6: Maa Katyayani

On the sixth day, devotees celebrate Maa Katyayani, who represents strength and determination. Goddess Katyayani is a Shakti form and is regarded as one of the most violent forms of Goddess Parvati. She has four arms and is carrying a sword.

Honey is the recommended offering, representing the sweetness of life. Those wanting success in media or entertainment often pray to Maa Katyayani on this day, eating honey as prasad.

Day 7: Maa Kalaratri

The seventh day celebrates Maa Kalaratri, who protects against evil forces. Goddess Kaalratri is a four-armed deity who rides a donkey and wields a sword, trident, and noose. She possesses a third eye on her forehead, which is thought to contain the entire universe.

On this day, devotees offer jaggery as bhog. It is thought that jaggery adds sweetness to life after overcoming obstacles.

Day 8: Maa Mahagauri

On the eighth day, Maa Mahagauri is honoured as the embodiment of purity and serenity. Goddess Mahagauri is a four-armed deity who rides either a bull or a white elephant. She has a Trishul and a Damru in her hands.

On this day, devotees often perform kanya pujan (worship of young girls) and offer coconut as bhog. This offering represents fertility and new beginnings.

Day 9: Maa Siddhidatri

The final day of Navratri celebrates Maa Siddhidatri, who represents knowledge and enlightenment. Goddess Siddhidhatri is a four-armed deity who sits on a lotus and holds a mace, discus, book, and lotus in her hands.

On this day, devotees offer sesame seeds as bhog. This offering is especially significant for individuals who fear untimely death.

Offering these nine types of bhog during the period of nine days of worship allows devotees to express gratitude while attracting blessings into their lives. Each food item has its own importance, contributing to the spiritual experience of this sacred celebration.

Navratri 2024: 9 days, 9 types of bhog to offer 9 avatars of Goddess Durga

https://www.ptcnews.tv/lifestyle/himachal-pradesh-tet-2024-hp-teacher-eligibility-test-2024-registration-begins-4398735

Himachal Pradesh TET 2024: HP Teacher Eligibility Test 2024 registration begins; know key dates

https://www.ptcnews.tv/lifestyle/himachal-pradesh-tet-2024-hp-teacher-eligibility-test-2024-registration-begins-4398735

Sun, 29 Sep 2024 12:29:53 +0530

Himachal Pradesh TET 2024 Registration: The registration process for the Himachal Pradesh Teachers Eligibility Test (HP TET) 2024 November session commenced on September 28. It serves as a reminder to individuals, governments, and health organisations to take proactive steps to prevent heart-related diseases.

World Heart Day 2024: Theme

From 2024 to 2026, the campaign will focus on the theme "Use Heart for Action," encouraging people to prioritise their heart health while also enabling them to urge leaders to take cardiovascular health seriously. This theme creates a global platform for meaningful action, highlighting the value of deliberate, impactful actions.

World Heart Day 2024: History

The World Heart Federation (WHF) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) collaborated to establish World Heart Day in 1999. The first official celebration was held on September 24, 2000, to highlight the growing prevalence of heart disease and stroke.

These disorders are often preventable with healthy lifestyle changes, hence the project was developed to raise awareness and urge preventive steps on a global scale.

World Heart Day 2024: Tips to improve your cardiovascular health:

Stay Active: Do at least 30 minutes of moderate physical exercise five days a week, such as brisk walking or cycling. Regular exercise helps to strengthen the heart and enhance circulation.

Eat Heart-Healthy Foods: Aim for a diet high in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. To lower your risk of heart disease, limit your intake of saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol.

Manage Stress: Chronic stress can raise blood pressure and increase the risk of heart disease. Practice relaxation techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, and yoga.

Maintain a Healthy Weight: Maintaining a healthy weight puts less strain on your heart, decreases cholesterol, and helps control blood pressure.

Quit smoking: Smoking damages blood vessels, elevates blood pressure, and increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. Seek help to quit if necessary.

Monitor Your Blood Pressure: High blood pressure is a significant risk factor for heart disease. Check your blood pressure on a regular basis and manage it as needed with changes in lifestyle and medications.

Keep Cholesterol Levels Under Control: High cholesterol can cause plaque to build up in the arteries. Choose healthy fats such as olive oil, almonds, and avocados, and avoid fried and processed foods.

Limit Your Alcohol Consumption: Drinking alcohol in moderation can be part of a heart-healthy diet, but too much alcohol can raise blood pressure and contribute to cardiovascular disease.

Get Enough Sleep: Poor sleep has been related to an increased risk of heart disease. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night to allow your body to recover and heal.

Stay Hydrated: Drinking enough water improves circulation and maintains normal cardiac function. Avoid sugary beverages and excessive caffeine.

World Heart Day 2024: Here are 10 proven ways to improve cardiovascular health

https://www.ptcnews.tv/lifestyle/hindi-diwas-2024-date-history-national-hindi-day-4397787

Hindi Diwas 2024: Why do we celebrate it? As club and party culture gained traction, the quirky mention of Sarojini Nagar in the song resonated deeply with many, given the market’s reputation for affordable fashion.

While the charm of Sarojini Nagar Market, one of Delhi’s most iconic shopping destinations, has long been undeniable, admitting to sourcing fashion from there wasn’t always a trend. The market’s appeal lay in its affordability, but wearing its finds was often considered less glamorous—until recently.

A Historical Perspective

Sarojini Nagar Market, which wasn’t always known by its current name, evolved from its origins post-Independence. Initially known as Vinay Nagar, the market emerged as a hub for refugees from Pakistan who settled in Delhi following Partition. Early on, it served as a modest community shopping area catering to local needs with stores selling basic goods.

The late 80s and early 90s marked a turning point as globalization introduced export surplus goods to the market. Vendors began offering high-quality items at bargain prices, including surplus from Western countries. This shift drew fashion enthusiasts and designers seeking unique, budget-friendly finds.

<blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink="https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cb-G1d-hELK/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading" data-instgrm-version="14" style=" background:#FFF; It even attracted Miss Universe 1994 winner Sushmita Sen, who sourced fabric for pageant gowns from the market. Despite a terrorist attack in 2005, which caused significant disruption, Sarojini Nagar rebounded quickly and continued to attract shoppers from all over.

The Social Media Revolution

Fast forward to 2024, Sarojini Nagar has become a brand in its own right, fueled by social media. Platforms like Instagram have seen a surge of haul videos and fashion tips centered around the market. Influencers like Komal Pandey and Kritika Khurana have popularised Sarojini finds, demonstrating how items as inexpensive as ₹100 can be styled to perfection.

<blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink="https://www.instagram.com/p/Bqe54SuAVYf/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading" data-instgrm-version="14" style=" background:#FFF;
