On Monday, BSF's Kissan Guard party detained the two Pakistani individuals near the border fence as they had inadvertently crossed the International Boundary and entered Indian territory near Naushera Dhalla village, according to a BSF officer.

The individuals were identified as 25-year-old Sabib Khana, a resident of Panchak in Toba Take Singh district of Pakistan, and 21-year-old Mohammad Chand, a resident of Shadara Pind near Lahore.

Upon questioning, it was confirmed that both had unintentionally crossed into Indian territory. No objectionable items were found except for personal belongings and Pakistani currency totaling Rs 1000, the officer added.

The BSF lodged a protest with Pakistan Rangers regarding the incident. Subsequently, on June 6 at approximately 1 am, both apprehended Pakistani nationals were handed over to the other side on humanitarian grounds.

The incident created panic in the area, with tourists and devotees strolling the street when the blast occurred. The windowpanes of a nearby restaurant and Saragarhi Sarai were shattered due to the impact of the blast, leaving pedestrians on the busy Heritage Street injured.

The injured included some girls from Haryana, who had reached the area to pay obeisance at Darbar Sahib. They sustained minor injuries as shards of windowpanes of Saragarhi parking, which were shattered due to the blast, hit them.

Dr Mehtab Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, said forensic teams were investigating the exact reason behind the blast, while police officials appealed to people to maintain peace. The situation was under control, and there was no need to panic, they said.

In the morning, forensic experts from Chandigarh scanned the spot to ascertain the cause behind the explosion, though the police said investigations were in progress. Police Commissioner Naunihal Singh said the police were yet to receive any report from the forensic experts. “Until we receive any report from them, we cannot determine the cause behind the blast,” he said.

Initially, it was believed that the blast occurred in a chimney of a restaurant. A witness, Karandeep Singh, said a motorcyclist was passing through the street when the blast occurred. People got scared and rushed towards the spot.

The police issued an advisory to maintain peace and harmony, urging people to check the fact before sharing anything on social media while adding that the situation was under control.

ਦੱਸਣਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਨਵੰਬਰ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਦੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ 22 ਦਿਨਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੈਦੀਆਂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਕੁੱਲ 43 ਮੋਬਾਇਲ ਫੋਨ ਜ਼ਬਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਮੁੱਕਦਮੇ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਅੰਦਰ ਗੈਰ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ ਸੁੱਟਣ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਲਈ ਚਲਾਈ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਤਹਿਤ ਗੁਪਤ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਦੇ ਉੱਤਰੀ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵਰਜਿਤ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ ਸੁੱਟੀਆਂ ਜਾਣੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਗੈਰ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਸਮਾਨ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੋਬਾਈਲ, ਨਸ਼ੀਲਾ ਪਦਾਰਥ, ਬੀੜੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੰਬਾਕੂ ਆਦਿ ਬਰਾਮਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਆਰੰਭ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ।
