The dark mode for the WhatsApp offers a fresh look on a familiar experience, said the company in a blog post. It added that the dark mode was designed to reduce eye strain in low light environments. It will help prevent those awkward moments (when you take a look at your phone in a dark room) where your cellphone lights up.

Readability and Information Hierarchy

The company said in a post that when it was designing the dark mode, it spent a lot of time researching and experimenting with two particular areas i.e. readability and information hierarchy. While choosing colors, the company wanted to minimize eye failure and use colors that are much closer to the system defaults on iPhone and Androids. Also, the company wanted to help users easily focus their attention on each screen. The company has used color and other design elements so that the most important information stands out. How to enable 'Dark Mode' feature on your phone?

First of all, make sure that your WhatsApp is updated. If your Android 10 OS or iOS 13 phones are updated and you already have the system-wide dark theme activated, then the WhatsApp will automatically switch to the dark theme. If you are Android 9 OS user and below, go into WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Theme > select ‘Dark mode’.

The good Samaritan, Dharamveer Jakhar, hails from Churu in Rajasthan. He started the school in January, 2016 after he noticed many children begging near the police station.

When he spoke to them, he found out that many were orphans. Jakhar visited the slums they lived in and observed their lives. Moved by the difficulties he saw them facing at a tender age, Jakhar started a school, Apni Pathshala, for them.

As of now, there are 450 students on the rolls. He has arranged a van for them to facilitate their transport to and from school. He also provided them with clothes, shoes, food and study material free of cost. Despite the nobility of the initiative, the government is yet to take notice.

In 1896, he returned to India to continue his fight. On his return, Gandhi went to Rajkot, where he wrote and issued a ‘Green Pamphlet’ exposing the condition of Indian labourers and coolies in South Africa and human rights violations he witnessed there. This did not go down well with the British government and Gandhi was made to pay. When he went back to South Africa with his family, his ship was not allowed to dock in Durban for three days. When he was finally allowed to deboard, he was beaten by a group of white people. He was rescued by Durban Police Superintendent RC Alexander’s wife, Sarah Alexander, who happened to be passing by. She spread her umbrella over him to shield him from the murderous mob. A Delhi court on Friday extended till September 17 the Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody of Karnataka Congress leader D K Shivakumar in connection with a money laundering case. Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar asked the investigating agency to take the accused for medical examination after his counsel submitted he is "suffering from high blood pressure" and his health condition is "serious". The court also directed the ED to file its reply on the bail plea of Shivakumar by Monday. The Congress leader was produced before the special judge at the Rouse Avenue Court Complex earlier today after the expiry of the ED's nine-day remand. During the course of the proceedings, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) KM Natraj, appearing on behalf of the agency, said Shivakumar was "evasive" and gave "irrelevant replies" during his custodial interrogation. The ASG submitted the ED wants to "confront Shivakumar with certain people and bank documents". Natraj contended family members and close associates of the former Karnataka minister have more than 317 bank accounts in over 20 banks. Following the submissions by the ED counsel, the court asked the probe agency as to how the accused would provide answers in five days if he has not done so until now. "What do you mean by non-cooperation? Do you think he will give answers in the next five days? So far, as his answering of questions was concerned, if he was going to do it he would have done it by now," the judge said. Shivakumar told the court that he has five bank accounts, contrary to the more the 300 claimed by the agency. "I have been cooperating," he added. The Congress leader was arrested by the ED on September 3. He was produced before the court the next day. The money laundering case was registered by the agency against him in September last year, based on a complaint filed by the Income Tax department. The I-T department, during the initial probe, had allegedly found unaccounted and misreported wealth linked to Shivakumar. The department had stated it came across money laundering and hawala operations, involving a network of persons across Delhi and Bengaluru. (ANI)

Anuradha Bhasin, Executive Editor of Kashmir Times, told a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi that even after a month of scrapping of Article 370, journalists were not allowed to move freely in the state. However, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court that editors of Kashmir Times chose not to publish their newspaper. The Centre told the bench that a large number of newspapers were being published from Srinagar. Attorney General K K Venugopal told the court that step by step relaxation was being allowed in Jammu and Kashmir.
