Authorities said the speedboat was carrying 32 Indian tourists and four Vietnamese crew members when it overturned on Saturday afternoon, less than 500 metres from the shore, shortly after leaving Hon May Rut Ngoai Island near Phu Quoc, Vietnam's largest island.

The Indian Embassy in Hanoi said on Sunday that 16 survivors had been discharged from hospital and were on their way back to India. However, one survivor remains in critical condition at a hospital in Vietnam.

The embassy added that the bodies of the 15 victims were being taken to Ho Chi Minh City before being flown to India after completing the required formalities.

All those who died were part of a company trip organised by Lava International. The group, which included employees, distributors and retail partners, had split into three boats while travelling between islands near Phu Quoc.

Ashish Kumar, a 48-year-old distributor from Guntur who witnessed the incident from the shore, told the Associated Press that one boat had already left while the other two were still docked when the vessel suddenly capsized less than half a kilometre from land.

Ha Van Loc, the captain of a nearby boat, told VN Express that he saw around a dozen people clinging to the overturned vessel while others without life jackets struggled in the rough sea. He and his crew managed to rescue four survivors after throwing life buoys into the water.

The 11-page report, submitted to the CBI in a sealed cover on July 10, confirmed the presence of skin tissue on the gymnastics belt, which had a metal ring attached. According to sources, the findings suggest that the belt matched the injury marks found on Twisha's neck.

Twisha, 33, had married Samarth Singh in December last year. She was found hanging at her home on May 12. Sources told PTI that the CBI is studying the AIIMS report, which was prepared by a medical board constituted after the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered a second post-mortem.

The initial post-mortem could not determine the ligature used because the gymnastics belt was not available to forensic experts at the time. Police later recovered the belt and sent it to the AIIMS Delhi-led medical board for examination.

According to the FIR, Samarth Singh took Twisha to AIIMS Bhopal and told doctors that she had hanged herself at home around 10:20 pm on May 12. However, a doctor at AIIMS Bhopal informed police the following day that she had been brought dead to the hospital, after which a medico-legal case was registered.

The first post-mortem report stated that the cause of death was "antemortem hanging by ligature" and also noted the presence of multiple antemortem injuries.

Claiming there were serious lapses in the initial investigation and post-mortem examination, Twisha's family moved the Madhya Pradesh High Court, which ordered a second autopsy by AIIMS Delhi. The court later transferred the investigation to the CBI.

Referring to the Afghanistan crisis, Modi said the government had ensured that the sacred saroops of the Guru Granth Sahib were brought back to India with full respect. He also spoke about the decision to observe December 26 every year as Veer Bal Diwas to honour the sacrifice of the four Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh. According to the Prime Minister, the observance has helped children across the country learn about the courage and sacrifice of the Sahibzadas and Mata Gujri.

“Our great Sikh Gurus gave the message of service, courage, equality and compassion to humanity. Gurdwaras across the world have become centres of selfless service where no one goes hungry and those in distress find support,” he said.

Modi also spoke about the journey of the sacred Jore Sahib associated with Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He said Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had informed him that his family had preserved the relics for nearly 300 years after bringing them safely to Delhi during Partition.

The Prime Minister said that after consultations with Sikh scholars and religious experts, the government decided to place the sacred relics at Takht Sri Patna Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh, where devotees can now pay their respects. He also invited members of the Indian diaspora to visit the shrine during their trips to India, adding that he considered it a privilege to witness the installation ceremony.

Over the past 12 years, the Modi government has repeatedly highlighted initiatives related to the Sikh community as the BJP seeks to expand its support among Sikh voters, particularly in Punjab. The party has been working to strengthen its presence in the state ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections by increasing its outreach and inducting local leaders.

Bittu said the filmmakers must present proof of these claims before the public, failing which legal action would be initiated against them. He added that if the makers are able to provide authentic documents supporting the figures shown in the film, he would publicly apologise.

Bittu has been consistently questioning the claims made by the filmmakers. A day earlier, he challenged them to make a film on the killing of government school principal Nirmal Kanta of Patiala, who was allegedly murdered by terrorists in front of her students.

Bittu said that no responsible filmmaker has the right to distort history by presenting contested figures as unquestionable truth. Punjab paid a terrible price during the years of terrorism. Every innocent victim deserves justice and remembrance—irrespective of religion, community or ideology.

According to Iran, the vessel was fired upon shortly before it announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz once again. Tehran claimed the ship was travelling on an unauthorised route and warned that any retaliation over the incident would receive a "severe response."

The attack came amid renewed tensions between Iran and the United States after days of fragile calm in the region.

India also expressed serious concern over the repeated attacks on commercial vessels in the Middle East and stressed the importance of ensuring the safety and security of international shipping routes.

"The continuing incidents of attacks on commercial shipping in the region are deeply worrisome. We reiterate our call for immediate de-escalation of tensions, and the conclusion of ongoing negotiations for a diplomatic solution so that peace and stability can return to the region," the MEA said in its statement.

Commercial ships and civilian infrastructure must not be targeted in accordance with international law, it stressed.

"The targeting of commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure in the region must end, and free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through the international waterways in the region, in keeping with international law, must be restored at the earliest," it added.

Doctors who carried out the post-mortem examination confirmed that the child had been sexually assaulted before she was killed. The report also states that her death was caused by a severe injury to the head.

The girl's body was found early Saturday morning. Acting on a complaint filed by her family, the police have registered a case and launched an investigation. The incident took place in the Raj Nagar Extension locality, which falls under the jurisdiction of Nandgram police station.

Family members say the child's body showed signs of a serious head injury along with several fractures. She was found in the basement area of the same building.

Investigators believe the girl may have fallen or been pushed from the third floor of the under-construction structure, though this has not yet been confirmed. 

So far, the Ghaziabad police have taken four to five persons into custody for questioning in connection with the case. The FIR includes charges of rape, murder, kidnapping, and offences under the POCSO Act. Two other suspects are still evading arrest. Cops are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to piece together what happened and who was involved.

According to the girl's uncle, she had gone missing on Friday evening  and her family had spent hours searching for her before the tragic discovery. Her parents are daily-wage labourers employed at the very construction site where the mall is being built  and the family lives in temporary housing set up on the site.

The news of the child's murder spread quickly through the neighbourhood, sparking outrage among residents. In the heat of the moment, some locals tried to attack a security guard posted at the construction site. To control the situation, additional police forces were called in to the area.

DCP (Rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari said the police received a call around 1 am on July 11 reporting that a girl's body had been found inside the under-construction mall. A team from Nandgram police station rushed to the scene. A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team also examined the site and collected evidence.

ACP Nandgram, Priyashree Pal, said the police acted swiftly upon receiving the information. She confirmed that forensic evidence has been gathered an FIR has been filed based on the family's complaint. Multiple suspects are currently being interrogated.

The victim, Rohit Sharma, was a resident of Chichoura village in the Konch area of Gaya.

According to his family, Rohit had travelled to Nepal with four friends. The group first visited the famous Tal Barahi Temple in Pokhara and later went to Phewa Lake for a swim.

During the swim, Rohit entered deeper water and began drowning. His friends tried to rescue him but were unsuccessful.

After receiving information, a rescue team from Nepal's Armed Police Force (APF) reached the spot, pulled Rohit out of the lake and rushed him to a hospital. However, doctors declared him dead.

Local authorities have started the required legal procedures following the incident.

Rohit's wedding was scheduled for November or December this year, and preparations were about to begin. His death has left his family and the entire Chichoura village in shock.

Rohit's father, Sanjay Sharma, had passed away earlier. He is survived by his two brothers. His elder brother, Guddu Sharma, is a farmer and is the family's main breadwinner.

The incident has also raised fresh concerns about tourist safety at Phewa Lake, a popular destination that attracts thousands of visitors every year.

The toddler died at a private hospital in Kerala's Kannur district on Friday, July 10.

Devansh Shaurya, the only child of T Suraj and Vijisha, residents of Eramam-Kuttoor in Kannur, had suffered a cut on his lip after falling while playing outside his home on July 5. He was first rushed to the primary health centre in Mathamangalam and given first aid.

Later he was shifted to the Baby Memorial Hospital where he was treated under anesthesia following which he lost consciousness. 

The family has accused doctor Anjali Poduval of medical negligence in connection with the child's death. Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the doctor under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with acts that endanger life or personal safety and carries a maximum punishment of three months in jail.

Baby Memorial Hospital, which has branches in Kozhikode, Kannur, Thodupuzha, Payyanur and Vadakara, has denied the allegations.

In a statement, the hospital said the child suffered an unexpected cardiac arrest soon after being given anaesthesia. Doctors immediately put the child on ventilator support before shifting the patient to the hospital's Kannur branch for advanced treatment.

The hospital said that complications can occur after anaesthesia even when the correct dosage is given and proper medical procedures are followed.

It added that all standard treatment protocols were followed and that doctors made every possible effort to save the child's life.

The exact number of passengers on board and the cause of the accident have not yet been officially confirmed. Rescue teams are continuing their efforts to locate and assist those involved as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Indian Embassy in Vietnam said it is closely monitoring the situation and is in constant touch with Vietnamese officials.

In a statement shared on social media, the embassy said it was gathering information about the accident while search and rescue operations remained in progress. It also announced the establishment of emergency control rooms at the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and the Embassy in Hanoi to assist affected families and respond to queries.

According to local reports, several tourist boats operating nearby rushed to the scene immediately after the vessel overturned, joining the rescue mission alongside emergency responders.

A boat operator was quoted as saying by local media that his team reached the accident site within minutes. However, he said the operation was challenging because several passengers were trapped inside the overturned vessel, and only a few people were rescued in a conscious condition.

Reports indicated that the sea was rough in the waters off An Thoi at the time of the accident. While there was no rainfall, weather conditions were said to be difficult, even as tourist boats continued to operate in the area.

The incident has once again drawn attention to maritime safety in Vietnam's popular tourist destinations. It comes nearly a year after a deadly boating tragedy in Ha Long Bay, where a tourist vessel capsized during severe weather, resulting in the deaths of several passengers.

Authorities are expected to release further details once rescue operations are completed and the investigation progresses. The Indian Embassy has assured that it will continue to provide all possible assistance to the affected Indian nationals and their families.

The decision will allow the institution to admit 50 additional undergraduate medical students every year, creating more opportunities for aspiring doctors seeking admission to one of the region's leading government medical colleges.

The approval comes after the college fulfilled the standards laid down by the National Medical Commission regarding academic quality, faculty strength, infrastructure and other regulatory requirements.

The expansion is also expected to contribute to the long-term goal of addressing the growing demand for qualified healthcare professionals in the region. With more graduates entering the medical workforce each year, the move is likely to strengthen healthcare services and improve access to trained doctors in the years ahead.

The revised intake of 200 MBBS seats will be applicable from the 2026-27 academic session, making GMCH Chandigarh one of the government medical institutions in North India with a larger undergraduate intake.

According to Nepal Police, the operation was carried out on Friday by the Anti-Narcotics Bureau following specific intelligence about suspected drug-related activities in the area.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Iqbal Khan (50) from Amethi's Musafirkhana in Uttar Pradesh, Ram Dayal Sharma (34) from Siddharthnagar district in Uttar Pradesh, and Sarajuddin Musalman (24), a resident of Lumbini Municipality in Nepal's Rupandehi district.

The police said the operation turned tense when one of the Indian suspects allegedly opened fire while officers attempted to apprehend the group. During the exchange, Iqbal Khan sustained a gunshot injury below his left knee.

The injured suspect was shifted to Lumbini Provincial Hospital.

During the raid, officers recovered approximately 300 gram of heroin, a pistol, two rounds of ammunition, a motorcycle, and two mobile phones.

Authorities have taken the accused into custody, and further investigation is underway to determine the source and intended destination of the seized narcotics. Police are also examining whether the suspects were part of a larger cross-border drug trafficking network.

The accused, Rajkumar, first attacked his 30-year-old wife, Parvathi Saritha, and two sons -- aged 4 and 1 -- at their residence in Shabad on Friday night.

He then travelled to the house of a 17-year-old girl, who had filed a complaint under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against him on May 16. He took her in a car to a deserted location and then allegedly murdered her.

Following the attacks, Rajkumar reportedly called his father and other family members and informed them that he had killed both the families. He also allegedly intended upon committing suicide before fleeing. 

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the accused committed the murders at two separate locations during the night. After the killings, he called his father and disclosed the crime," Future City Commissioner of Police Tarun Joshi said.

The body of all the victims have been shifted for post-mortem examination, while further investigation is underway. 

The missing couple has been identified as Pabba Chandrasekhar and his wife, Pabba Swapna, residents of Cherlapally in Hyderabad. 

According to the police, the couple had travelled to Switzerland for a vacation and stayed in regular touch with their family during the first few days of the trip. However, all communication suddenly stopped, and their mobile phones have been switched off for more than 20 days, raising concerns about their safety.

The case came to light after the couple's daughter, Pabba Shreya, filed a missing persons complaint at the Charlapalli Police Station on July 9. She told police that she had been unable to contact her parents for over three weeks despite making repeated attempts.

Following the complaint, police registered a missing case and started an investigation.

Officials said they are trying to find out where the couple is and whether they are still in Switzerland.

As part of the investigation, police are checking the couple's travel records, including their itinerary and immigration details. They are also working with the concerned authorities and agencies to gather information that could help trace them.

The family has appealed to anyone with information about Chandrasekhar and Swapna to come forward, saying they are deeply worried after having no contact with them for such a long time.

Police said further action will depend on the findings of the investigation and information received from the authorities. The probe is ongoing.

The first incident took place in the Bothwell area near Government College in Sanjauli. A huge quantity of rocks, mud and debris rolled down the slope, creating panic among residents living nearby. Officials from the district administration and other concerned departments rushed to the spot to inspect the affected area and assess the damage.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as some houses remain vulnerable due to the unstable hillside. However, no casualties have been reported so far.

Another landslide struck Rajhana village later in the day. Large boulders and debris fell onto the roadside, damaging several vehicles parked there. Debris removal work has already started to restore the affected stretch.

In a separate incident, the Sangla Bridge, which serves as an important link between Sangla and Chitkul in Kinnaur district, collapsed on Friday night. The bridge had been under pressure due to continuous rainfall over the past few days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rainfall across Himachal Pradesh and issued a yellow alert for Shimla, Kullu, Chamba, Bilaspur and Sirmaur districts. Heavy to moderate rain is expected at isolated places.

The weather department has also warned of possible waterlogging in low-lying areas, traffic disruptions, slippery roads and temporary interruption of essential services. Residents and tourists have been advised to stay away from landslide-prone locations, riverbanks and other vulnerable areas until weather conditions improve.

The bus, carrying around 15 passengers, was travelling from Ramdarbar to Maloya when the incident took place.

The driver acted quickly and safely brought the bus to a stop, preventing a serious accident. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Eyewitnesses said the bus was moving at a normal speed when both tyres suddenly detached with a loud noise. The driver immediately applied the brakes and managed to control the vehicle.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of Chandigarh's electric buses. Similar cases involving technical faults, mechanical failures and even buses overturning have been reported in the past.

The issue arose during a presentation by former Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Ahmed Tariq Karim at a seminar titled "Rebuilding Trust, Renewing Regional Integration: Pathways for Revitalising SAARC" held on Friday.

During the presentation, a map showed Jammu and Kashmir as part of Pakistan. Pooja Kumari Jha, Second Secretary at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, immediately raised an objection.

"This is an incorrect map. Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India," Jha said.

The Indian side reiterated its position that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of the country and objected to the incorrect depiction of India's map.

Following the objection, Ahmed Tariq Karim acknowledged the concern and said it had been noted.

Bangladesh's State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shama Obaed, attended the seminar as the chief guest.

During her address, Obaed highlighted the need for stronger regional cooperation in South Asia and called for greater efforts to close the gap between the region's potential and its actual performance.

The issue has gained attention again after the controversy over Satluj, a film based on Khalra's life. The movie was removed from the OTT platform ZEE5 on June 5, just two days after its release, leading to protests by several political and Sikh organisations in Punjab demanding that it be restored.

Former Tarn Taran Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajit Singh Sandhu and former Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jaspal Singh received the President's Police Medal for Gallantry in 1995 for their role during Punjab's counter-insurgency operations.

Later that same year, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) named both officers as main accused in the abduction, torture and murder of Jaswant Singh Khalra.

In November 2005, a CBI court in Patiala sentenced former DSP Jaspal Singh to life imprisonment. The Punjab and Haryana High Court upheld the verdict in 2007, and the Supreme Court confirmed it in 2011. SSP Ajit Singh Sandhu died by suicide in 1997 while the CBI investigation was still underway.

Critics say Jaspal Singh's life sentence is enough reason for his gallantry medal to be withdrawn.

After widespread public outrage, the CBI took over the investigation in 1995 and filed charges against six Punjab Police personnel. These included DSP Jaspal Singh, sub-inspectors Satnam Singh, Surinder Pal Singh, Jasbir Singh and Amarjit Singh, and head constable Prithipal Singh. They were accused of abduction, illegal detention, murder and destroying evidence. Amarjit Singh was later acquitted, while Ajit Singh Sandhu was also named in the CBI chargesheet.

The fresh probe comes as investigators examine allegations that Vijay's daughter, Ayushi Sharma, who has already been arrested for her mother's murder, may have also played a role in her father's death as part of a larger conspiracy involving family property and a government job.

The development follows the arrest of 23-year-old Ayushi Sharma, who is accused of planning her mother Neeraj Sharma's murder with the help of her cousin, Balram alias Ravi, and others. Balram is still on the run.

According to police, Neeraj Sharma, a lower division clerk (LDC), was deliberately run over by a Scorpio SUV in Jaipur's Pratap Nagar on July 3 to make the murder appear like a road accident. So far, seven people, including Ayushi, have been arrested in the case.

The latest complaint has been filed by Rakesh Sharma, Neeraj's brother and Ayushi's maternal uncle. He has approached both the police and a court, demanding an investigation into Vijay Sharma's death.

Rakesh alleged that Vijay, who worked as a Court Master at the Rajasthan High Court, was seriously ill but recovering when Ayushi stopped him from getting proper medical treatment.

During questioning, Ayushi allegedly told investigators that she had harboured resentment towards her mother for years, believing she was treated with less affection than her differently-abled brother.

Police said she confessed to discussing plans to kill her mother with Balram and cited family property disputes and personal hatred as the main motives. Investigators described the final-year LLB student as legally aware and highly calculating. Psychologists will also assist in her interrogation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ranjita Sharma said Balram is still absconding and efforts to arrest him are underway.

She added that the allegations regarding Vijay Sharma's death will be examined as part of the ongoing investigation. Based on the findings, police will decide whether to add new charges in the existing case or register a separate case related to Vijay's death.

Large convoys of farmers, agricultural labourers, youth and women travelled from Bathinda and several other districts of Punjab to participate in the rally, leading to heavy congestion on major roads. Long traffic queues were reported on routes connecting Sector 34 to Sector 17's Matka Chowk, causing significant inconvenience to office-goers and daily commuters.

The Chandigarh Police, under the supervision of DSP Neeraj Sarna, implemented extensive security arrangements and traffic diversions. Barricades installed with administrative approval further slowed vehicle movement, resulting in prolonged traffic jams across key parts of the city.

According to farmer leaders, the protest was organised against the Central government's alleged anti-farmer policies, trade agreements with the United States, and several long-pending demands of the farming community.

Union leaders are expected to announce the next phase of their agitation, prompting the administration to remain on high alert.

Authorities advised commuters to use alternative routes as traffic diversions remained in place to manage the large gathering.

With this change, these medicines can no longer be sold freely over the counter. They will only be available against a valid prescription and pharmacies will have to maintain detailed records of every sale.

Why has govt taken this step?

The decision comes after concerns that some alcohol-based cough syrups, tonics and other liquid medicines were being misused because they were easily available without proper medical supervision. Health authorities believe stricter regulation will help prevent misuse while ensuring that patients who genuinely need these medicines continue to receive them through a doctor's prescription.

The move is aimed at improving patient safety and strengthening the monitoring of medicines that have a higher risk of misuse.

Which medicines are covered?

The revised rule applies to oral medicines containing more than 12% ethyl alcohol and products sold in bottles larger than 30 ml. These medicines will now be treated as Schedule H1 drugs, which are subject to stricter regulatory controls.

Retail pharmacies will now have to follow additional rules while dispensing these medicines.

They must sell the medicine only after receiving a valid prescription from a registered medical practitioner, maintain a separate register recording every sale and preserve prescriptions and sale records for at least three years, so they can be inspected by drug authorities whenever required.

These requirements already apply to several antibiotics, anti-tuberculosis medicines and other drugs that require close monitoring.

What is Schedule H1?

Schedule H1 is a special category under the Drugs Rules introduced in 2013 to monitor medicines that require tighter control than ordinary prescription drugs. Medicines listed under Schedule H1 carry stricter conditions, including sale only on a doctor's prescription, special warning labels on the packaging, mandatory record-keeping by pharmacies and inspection of records by drug regulators.

The list initially included certain antibiotics, anti-TB medicines and habit-forming drugs. Over the years, more medicines have been added based on recommendations from expert committees.

Notably,  ethyl alcohol is widely used in medicines because it helps dissolve active ingredients and improves the stability of many formulations. When taken as prescribed, these medicines are considered safe.

However, problems can arise if medicines with high alcohol content are consumed in excessive amounts or without medical advice. Children, elderly people, patients with liver disease and those taking medicines that affect the central nervous system may be at greater risk of side effects.

Medical experts have also pointed out that some alcohol-containing medicines can contribute to measurable blood alcohol levels if consumed improperly, making careful prescribing and patient counselling important.

However, the new rule does not ban these medicines. Patients who require them can continue to receive treatment after consulting a doctor. However, they will now need a  valid prescription to purchase the medicine.
