A total of 1,304 candidates — 231 from national parties, 250 from state parties, 362 from unrecognised parties and 461 Independent candidates were in the fray. Apart from three special state observers, the Election Commission of India had appointed 65 general observers, 50 expenditure observers and 29 police observers, who are keeping a close vigil on the proceedings. As many as 2,083 sector officers were deployed to assist polling parties. Meanwhile, 315 contesting candidates were with Criminal Antecedents in Punjab assembly elections 2022.
