These narratives, meticulously preserved in the Uttara Kanda of the Valmiki Ramayana, elucidate the divine origins of this revered deity.

Legend intertwines with destiny as Anjana, the consort of Vanaraja Kesari, the King of Monkeys, becomes the vessel for Hanuman's incarnation. Anjana's path converges with the realm of curses when Muni Vishwamitra, in a moment of unintended disturbance, bestows upon her an affliction.

Desiring absolution, Anjana fervently invokes the grace of Lord Shiva, entreating him to inhabit her unborn child. Thus, Hanuman, bearing the essence of Shiva, descends into mortal existence, embodying the divine convergence of human and celestial realms.

Furthermore, amidst the myriad threads of mythic lore, another narrative finds prominence, weaving a tale of celestial intervention and cosmic alignment. King Dasharatha, amidst his quest for progeny, undertakes the sacred Putrakameshti yagna, seeking divine blessings for offspring.

In a twist of fate, the celestial offering, the sacred payasam, intended for the king, is intercepted mid-flight by a vigilant kite. Through the whims of fate, this celestial ambrosia finds its way into the hands of Anjana, delivered by the gentle breeze of Pawan Deva, the wind god. Thus, ensues the miraculous birth of Hanuman, heralded as the son of the wind, Pawan Putra Hanuman.

Hanuman Jayanti serves not merely as a commemoration of historical events but as a testament to the enduring legacy of devotion and divine intervention. Through the labyrinthine corridors of myth and legend, the figure of Hanuman emerges as a beacon of strength, resilience, and unwavering devotion, inspiring reverence and adulation across millennia.

When is Hanuman Jayanti 2024: Know the date, timings, mythological origins, puja vidhi, and more

https://www.ptcnews.tv/religion/know-the-significance-of-maha-shivratri-why-it-is-celebrated-4238529

Know the significance of Maha Shivratri; why it is celebrated?

https://www.ptcnews.tv/religion/know-the-significance-of-maha-shivratri-why-it-is-celebrated-4238529

Tue, 05 Mar 2024 14:49:44 +0530

PTC News Desk: Maha Shivratri holds profound significance in Hindu culture, commemorating Lord Shiva's cosmic dance, union with Parvati, and victory over ignorance. However, upon noticing a purse of coins in Mata Ji's possession, Gangu's integrity faltered, leading him to steal the purse that very night. Confronted by Mata Gujri Ji the following day, Gangu vehemently denied the theft despite Mata Ji witnessing the act. She advised him that honesty was the path to acquire money, instead of resorting to theft. Exposed, Gangu's demeanor changed, prompting him to seek rewards by betraying them to the authorities, aspiring to gain wealth.

Gangu's treacherous actions led to the imprisonment of Mata Ji and the Chotte Sahibzadas. He informed the Morinda jail's authorities about their whereabouts, resulting in their arrest and subsequent transfer to the authorities of Suba Sirhind. Initially confined in the Morinda jail for a night, Mata Gujri Ji and Chotte Sahibzadas were subsequently moved to Suba Sirhind the next day.

Inhumane Captivity: Suba Sirhind's Cruelty

In the book "Katha Guru Sootan Ji Ki," written in the Brāj language by Dina Singh, it is narrated that young Sahibzadas were forcibly taken away with their wrists bound by Gangu. On the night of 8th Poh, Mata Ji and the Sahibzadas were left starving in a cold room at Morinda, deprived of any clothing, enduring the chilly ground throughout the night. The subsequent day, they were taken to Sirhind. Upon learning of the arrest of Mata Ji and the Sahibzadas, Wazir Khan speculated that now the mother's affection would attempt to draw Guru Gobind Singh Ji to her side, coercing Guru Sahib to submit before her.

Wazir Khan confined Mata Gujri Ji and the young Sahibzadas within a cold tower. Underneath this tower flowed water, causing a draft that brought up cold air, intensifying the chill even in the midst of a sweltering climate. The intense contrast between the heat and the cold conditions couldn't be precisely estimated. Mata Ji and the children found themselves seated on the chilly floor with only meager pieces of cloth for cover. They were deprived of any sustenance that night. Two days later, they were served uncooked gram, exposed and vulnerable.

According to the account by Dr Ganda Singh, the nostrils of the Sahibzadas had turned red, and their hands became numb due to the extreme cold. The adversaries sought a new strategy to coerce Guru Gobind Singh into submission by considering the idea of forcing these young children to convert to Islam. Consequently, injuries appeared on their fragile bodies, and tender marks emerged on their gentle skin due to this punishment. Despite these severe measures, the Sahibzadas did not show any signs of wavering.

Suffering and Resilience: Torture and Unwavering Spirit

According to the narrative in "Katha Guru Sutnan Ji Ki, the Sahibzadas had nails hammered into their fingers, and a fire was kindled beneath their nails to observe their suffering. Remarkably, despite the excruciating torment, these revered sons of Guru Sahib displayed unwavering determination and resilience.

On the final day of the month of Poh (mid-January), when the executioner was about to deliver the final blow, a question was posed to Kazi regarding Islamic law which prohibits shedding the blood of a child or a woman on the earth. However, no fault was found with the Sahibzadas. Upon this, Sucha Nand, a loyal and devout companion, asked, "Hey Sahibzadas, if you were set free, what would you do?" The young Sahibzadas replied, "We would go to our father, Guru Gobind Singh, gather the Sikhs, and then administer justice to the Sirhind region."

Despite repeated inquiries by Sucha Nand, the young Sahibzadas reiterated the same response. Finally, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh stated, "Sucha Nand, till we overthrow this tyrant's rule or become martyrs, we will continue to fight." The tyrant then decided to bury the Sahibzadas alive in a wall. The verdict was given, and Mata Ji was informed by the Sahibzadas that they would be buried alive in a wall the next day.

Final Sacrifice: Martyrdom of Mata Gujri Ji and the Chhote Sahibzadas

In accordance with history, before the martyrdom of the young Sahibzadas, Mata Ji took out blue robes, adjusted their turbans, and bid farewell by kissing their foreheads. Sohan Singh Seetal wrote that when Chhote Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh were bricked alive, they collapsed due to the intense heat and lost consciousness. Even though a sentence couldn't be imposed again, an order was given to behead them with sharp swords. The executioners lifted both the Sahibzadas, lay their holy bodies on their laps, and severed their heads.

As documented in the historical text "Bansawali Nama," it is recorded that Baba Zorawar Singh attained martyrdom within two to two-and-a-half minutes, whereas Baba Fateh Singh, approximately after half an hour, had his feet beating until blood oozed out. Slowly, his feet stopped moving. On the other hand, unable to bear the separation from their grandsons and the story of their martyrdom, Mata Ji also could not endure the agony and, adhering to the will of the Almighty, bid farewell to this transient world by sacrificing her life

Crossing the tumultuous Sirsa river, the Guru's family became separated amid the chaos. Mata Gujri Ji, guiding the innocent Chotte Sahibzadas, traversed the Sirsa's banks and reached the vicinity of the Sutlej River, where the Saraswati river seamlessly merged into the Sirsa.

Kuma Mashki, a devout follower of Guru Sahib, hospitably invited Mata Ji and the Chotte Sahibzadas to seek refuge in his humble abode. That night, under Kuma Mashki's shelter, Mata Ji and the young Sahibzadas found respite.

Having lost his elder Sahibzaade, Baba Ajit Singh and Baba Jujhar Singh, in the intense battle, Guru Sahib embarked on a courageous and challenging journey that left an indelible mark on Sikh history.

Retreating from Chamkaur, Guru Gobind Singh Ji sought shelter in the forests of Machhiwara. It was there that he found refuge in the modest dwelling of Gani Khan and his companion, Nabi Khan. Despite being from a different faith, these noble souls selflessly protected Guru Sahib from the relentless pursuit of the Mughal forces, exemplifying the spirit of humanity and devotion.

Amidst his stay in Machhiwara, Guru Gobind Singh Ji penned the powerful Zafarnama (Letter of Victory) addressed to Emperor Aurangzeb. This letter was a testament to Guru Sahib's resilience, righteousness, and unwavering commitment to justice, despite the adversities he faced.

Continuing his journey, Guru Sahib reached the village of Dina and sought refuge with local Pathans. However, the treacherous Wazir Khan, Governor of Sirhind, betrayed their trust and launched an attack on the Guru. In the ensuing conflict, Guru Gobind Singh was injured, marking another tumultuous chapter in his journey.

Despite his efforts to seek medical aid for his wound, Guru Gobind Singh's condition worsened. As his health deteriorated, he imparted his spiritual wisdom to his followers, urging them to continue their struggle against oppression.

Guru Gobind Singh's ultimate act was the transfer of Guruship to Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism, ensuring eternal spiritual guidance for the Sikh community.

The remarkable journey of Guru Gobind Singh post-Chamkaur stands as a testament to his unwavering courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to justice. His sacrifices and teachings continue to inspire millions, serving as a beacon of hope and righteousness for generations to come.

... to be continued in Safar-E-Shahadat Part 5

Safar-E-Shahadat Part 4: The Remarkable journey of Guru Gobind Singh after the Battle of Chamkaur

https://www.ptcnews.tv/religion/punjab

Safar-E-Shahadat Part 3: The Battle of Chamkaur

https://www.ptcnews.tv/religion/punjab

Fri, 22 Dec 2023 18:49:04 +0530

Safar-E-Shahadat Part 3: When Guru Gobind Singh Ji crossed the Sirsa river, at that time, two elder Sahibzaade, Baba Ajit Singh Ji and Baba Jujhar Singh Ji, along with around 40 Singhs remained with h

Safar-E-Shahadat Part 3: When Guru Gobind Singh Ji crossed the Sirsa river, at that time, two elder Sahibzaade, Baba Ajit Singh Ji and Baba Jujhar Singh Ji, along with around 40 Singhs remained with him. On the other side, after getting separated at the Sirsa, Mata Gujri Ji, along with Baba Zorawar Singh (aged 7) and Baba Fateh Singh (aged 9), moved towards the banks of the river. At this place today stands Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib.

On the other side, Mata Sundari Kaur Ji, Mata Sahib Kaur Ji, Bhai Mani Singh Ji, and some other Sikhs were sent towards Ropar (Rupnagar), and this is how the Guru's family got separated into three groups.

When Guru Sahib reached the makeshift fort of Chamkaur, the family had already split into groups. Yet, Guru Sahib, Sahibzaade (sons of the Guru), and the Singhs were present in the Chamkaur fort. Yogi Allah Yaar Khan has also described the battle of Chamkaur in his account, paying homage to those who sacrificed their lives in the name of the Almighty.

This is the narrative of the yogi who recounts the events surrounding the battle of Chamkaur.

When Guru Gobind Singh Ji realised that it was immediately necessary to confront the approaching enemy forces from within the makeshift fortress, he promptly organised groups of five Sikh warriors each and positioned them around all four sides of the fort.

The Sikh warriors were exhausted, wounded, and hungry, yet their spirits remained high. On the other side, the Mughal and hill chiefs' armies encircled the makeshift fortress with nearly a convoy of 1,00,000 soldiers. History narrates that at that moment, Jarnail (a commander) warned that if Guru and his companions surrendered themselves, their lives would be spared, to which Guru Sahib responded with arrows. The exchange of arrows and bullets began from both sides, but no one dared to come near the walls of the fortress.

Nahar Khan and Ghairat Khan, two commanders from Sirhind, exhibited the bravery to climb over the walls, but were struck by Guru Sahib's arrows. Khwaja Mardood, however, escaped by concealing himself near the fortress wall. Meanwhile, in the Chamkaur fortress, the remaining Sikhs, exhausted and defeated, lied down for some time. Yet, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, sitting in meditation, observed each brick of the wall of the fortress with great love and attention, contemplating that this place would witness something that would be remembered by the world.

Bhai Daya Singh Ji stood near Guru Sahib and asked, "O King, are these walls of Chamkaur Sahib more beautiful than the walls of Patna Sahib and Anandpur Sahib?" Guru Sahib responded, "Patna Sahib represents the infancy of Sikhism, Anandpur Sahib is like a school of Sikhism, but this fortress is evolving into the global university of Sikhism; tomorrow, Sikhism will be tested here."

Yogi Allah Yaar Khan writes...

At night, the Sikh warriors pleaded with Guru Sahib to leave with both Sahibzadas (the Guru's sons). Guru Sahib replied, urging everyone to remain silent and said, "Whom are you addressing as Sahibzadas? You all are my beloved Sahibzadas." Overwhelmed with emotions, the warriors, tired and hungry, lay down in the refuge of Guru Sahib's words. Guru Sahib looked at each Singh affectionately, adjusted their turbans, sometimes looking at their faces and at times, at their feet.

Yogi Allah Yaar Khan describes these emotions as ...

In the morning, groups of five Singhs each geared up and entered the battlefield. Guru Sahib prepared both of his sons for the battle and sent them into the field. Each group would exit the fortress, establishing a new legacy of martyrdom and gallantry. Now came the turn of Baba Ajit Singh's group. The 18-year-old son sought permission from his father, understanding his father's sentiments and says...

"What would go through a father's heart when he knows his son won't return?" Guru Sahib witnessed the eldest Sahibzada engaging in the battle. History narrates that upon seeing the determination on the faces of the Guru, once even the Mughal forces felt uneasy. The thundering sound of Guru Sahib's voice, resembling lightning, resonated from the fortress of brave hearts, making everyone tremble upon hearing the spirited chants of 'Jo Bole So Nihal'.

Baba Ajit Singh displayed such valor that the enemy also trembled. With such bravery, he faced the enemies, leaving an indelible mark in history. Shooting arrows swiftly, when he momentarily stepped back to retreat, the enemy was forced to fall back too. When his quiver ran empty, he started fighting with the sword. Eventually, the five Sikh martyrs fell. Despite being alone, when all enemies gathered upon him, he displayed remarkable courage and bravery. Baba Ajit Singh, the eldest Sahibzada, became a martyr of supreme courage and valor.

The son, on being martyred, didn't sway Guru Sahib's emotions and amidst the rise of martial spirit, Guru Sahib exclaimed, as conveyed by the poet, "Well done, my son! You fought bravely indeed, why wouldn't you, being the cherished child of Gobind." With this, he raised the slogan of "Sat Sri Akal" and expressed gratitude to the Almighty.

Soon after, the younger Sahibzada came forward. Seeing his elder brother's enthusiasm for martyrdom, he too felt the desire for sacrifice. Baba Jujhar Singh also sought permission to join the battle. When Guru Sahib gave permission to him, the earth might have trembled once, and surely the heavens would have inclined their gaze. Standing at the doorway of the fort of Guru Sahib, watching his younger Sahibzada ready to battle, Guru Sahib entrusted another precious gift to the Almighty.

History bears witness that among avatars, prophets, or messengers, there has not been such patience shown by anyone who, despite witnessing his sons being martyred in battle, did not shed a single tear and instead thanked the Almighty.

When Guru Sahib was now preparing to enter the battlefield, the Singhs became concerned about who would lead the community if Guru Sahib were to attain martyrdom in the battle. 'Panj Pyare' deliberated and reached Guru Sahib, who reminded them of the authority entrusted to them, saying, "The command of the Khalsa cannot be denied; you must leave the fort."

Before leaving the fort, when the Narsimha was sounded so that the enemy could receive word that Guru Gobind Singh was departing, no one dared to advance. Standing a short distance from the fort on a small mound, three times the Narsimha was sounded loudly and with a strong voice, Guru Gobind Singh said, "Peer-e-Hind me ravad, Peer-e-Hind me ravad, Peer-e-Hind me ravad." Meaning, if the peer (leader) of Hind is departing and you can stop him, then do so.

Before leaving the fort, Guru Sahib handed his chola (robe) to Bhai Sangat Singh, who resembled Guru Sahib. Both Bhai Sangat Singh and Bhai Sant Singh, in devotion to Guru Sahib's love, had dedicated their mind, body, and wealth to Guru Sahib since the beginning, never marrying. During the 14 battles fought by Guru Sahib, Bhai Sangat Singh was with Guru Sahib in 13 of those battles. It was only during the final battle that he became martyred in the fortress of Chamkaur.

In this battle, 40 Singhs attained martyrdom, facing a force of 10 lakhs. Among the Panj Pyare (Five Beloved Ones) who were with Guru Sahib, when they were about to leave, Bhai Daya Singh accidentally collided his feet with the sacred body of Baba Jujhar Singh. He said to Guru Sahib, "I feel like placing my turban on Sahibzada's head." At that moment, Guru Sahib gestured toward the bodies of all other Singhs and said, "How can I differentiate within the Panth? They are all my sons. If you have arrangements for everyone, then provide for them; if not, then don't differentiate."

The next day, the remaining Singhs were martyred one by one, but they did not accept defeat. This marked the Battle of Chamkaur.

This concludes the narrative of Safar-E-Shahadat Part 3.

Safar-E-Shahadat Part 3: The Battle of Chamkaur

https://www.ptcnews.tv/religion/safar-e-shahadat-part-2-guru-gobind-singh-jis-anandpur-sahibs-departure-to-emotional-partings-at-sirsa-watch-video-2035476-1965309

Safar-E-Shahadat Part 2: Guru Gobind Singh Jis Anandpur Sahib's departure to emotional partings at Sirsa | Watch Video

https://www.ptcnews.tv/religion/safar-e-shahadat-part-2-guru-gobind-singh-jis-anandpur-sahibs-departure-to-emotional-partings-at-sirsa-watch-video-2035476-1965309

Mon, 23 Dec 2024 12:21:00 +0530

A fierce confrontation ensued on the banks of the Sirsa river amidst thunderous lightning, heavy rainfall and vigorous flow of the river. Sikhs exhibited exceptional bravery. Notably, a significant Sikh scripture, written by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, weighing approximately nine maunds (around 360 kg), was also submerged in the Sirsa river during this tumultuous period.

During the conflict, the 10th Guru, accompanied by his two elder sons, Baba Ajit Singh Ji and Baba Jujhar Singh Ji, crossed the Sirsa river with around 40 Singhs. Mata Gujri Ji was with her younger grandsons, Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji. Gurdwara Parivar Vichhora Sahib now stands as a poignant reminder at this site.

This concludes the narrative of Safar-E-Shahadat Part 2. Part 3 will illuminate the episode where Guru Sahib faced Chamkaur alongside his two Sahibzade and 40 Singhs, bravely standing against a colossal force of 10 lakh adversaries.

This treacherous attack transpired during sacred 'Amrit Vela'.

According to historical accounts, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji instructed Bhai Jaita Ji and nearly 100 Sikhs to immediately engage the enemy. The valiant Sikh warriors fiercely confronted the combined forces, causing considerable damage to the opposing side. The Sikhs persisted in battle until they reached the Sirsa river, displaying unwavering determination against the opposition.

Fr Walter De Sa, Parish Priest, Immaculate Conception Church, Goa told ANI, "We will start the Easter vigil. The resurrection of Lord Jesus is the climax of our celebration, the culmination of Paschal Mystery. After death, our Lord rose. We are going to celebrate this victory over death and sin. The ceremony will begin with blessings of fire and light. Lord is the light of the world, he takes away all the darkness, namely sin and other evils. We will put out all lights, light a candle and enter the Church. Once we are inside the church, will turn them all. The significance is that the Lord is the light of the world."

"Then after it, the second part of the celebration will start. We will read the Old Testament and see the history of salvation unfold till it reaches its climax in the New Testament when in Jesus we all received a new life and were freed from slavery and Satan. After this, we will bless the Holy Water. It symbolises new life. Jesus himself said that he is the 'living water'. Then, we will have the renewal of baptismal vows, where we will proclaim our rejection of Satan and our acceptance of faith in God. Later we will begin the liturgy of Eucharist, the cultivation of celebration of Eucharistic sacrifice."

"At the end, we will have a procession with a blessed sacrament around the church, we will enter the church with it and give solemn benediction to the people. We will also sprinkle holy water over people to signify that they are new creatures today, they have a new self and have become closer to god. Easter Vigil is the mother of all vigils. On Easter Sunday, masses will be held as usual, we will praise the Lord," he added.

In Tamil Nadu's capital Chennai, devotees offer prayers in a church in Nungambakkam on the occasion of Easter Sunday.

Easter is a holy Christian festival that celebrates Jesus rising from the dead, three days after he was put on a cross and executed.
