The attack, captured on CCTV, showed Varinder Singh strangling the victim and forcibly placing her into his vehicle. Subsequent footage depicted him driving aggressively towards her after she managed to escape through the vehicle's rear door.

During the court proceedings at Bradford Crown Court, Recorder Bryan Cox condemned the incident as severe violence within a controlling relationship. He imposed an indefinite restraining order prohibiting Varinder Singh from contacting his wife. Cox highlighted Singh's clear intention to cause significant harm, emphasising the victim's narrowly avoided severe physical injury.

Additionally, the Indian national has been banned from driving for six years and is required to undertake an extended driving retest. In her statement, the victim expressed ongoing trauma and fear, stating Singh's lack of restraint even in public spaces.

The court learned that the couple, amidst divorce proceedings, had met to discuss formalities. Initially evasive during police interrogation, Singh later pleaded guilty to attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, kidnap, assault, and charges from a previous incident.

Singh's barrister, Ayman Khokhar, acknowledged Singh's emotional turmoil due to the breakdown of his marriage. Khokhar recognised the fortunate outcome of the car park incident but stated Singh's desire to return to his family in India. However, Singh faces deportation upon completion of his sentence.

UK: Indian national gets six years in jail for assault on estranged wife in UK; faces deportation to India

https://www.ptcnews.tv/world-news/after-drinking-water-on-royal-navy-ship-sailors-fall-ill-718595

After drinking water on Royal Navy ship, sailors fall ill

https://www.ptcnews.tv/world-news/after-drinking-water-on-royal-navy-ship-sailors-fall-ill-718595

Sat, 04 Feb 2023 17:45:21 +0530

London, February 4: It was reported on Saturday that sailors from Britain's Royal Navy have been taken to hospital after an issue with the drinking water from Britain's Royal Navy ship. What is Lassa Fever ?
The Lassa fever-causing virus is found in West Africa, first discovered in 1969 in Lassa, Nigeria stated the Centers for Disease Control and Pollution (CDC). The virus causing Lassa fever is a single-stranded RNA, belonging to the virus family Arenaviridae. The discovery of this disease was made after two nurses died in Nigeria.

Lassa Fever Transmission
Transmission of the Lassa virus in humans can occur through ingestion or inhalation; in urine and droppings, direct contact with these materials; touching soiled objects; eating contaminated food; exposure to open cuts or sores.

Lassa Fever Symptoms
The symptoms of Lassa Fever appear nearly one to three weeks after the person contracts the infection. In most cases of Lassa fever (approx 80 percent) the symptoms could be mild and go undetected.

However, in the remaining 20 percent, the symptoms could be strong and include haemorrhaging in gums, eyes or nose, respiratory distress, repeated vomiting, facial swelling, pain in the chest, back and abdomen, and shock which can also include hearing loss, tremors, and encephalitis.

Lassa Fever Prevention
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Pollution (CDC), the way to avoid getting infected with Lassa fever is to avoid contact with rats. This means avoiding contact with rats in places where the disease is endemic and maintaining hygiene in almost all areas of the house or workplace to prevent the entry of rats. Keeping food in rat-proof containers and laying down rat traps at different areas of house and workplace is also advised.

While hospitalisations and deaths will continue to rise, he insisted that it is likely to be much lower than during the peak of the coronavirus last autumn.
