SAD asks Cong not to vitiate atmosphere in State by opposing commutation of sentence of Bhai Rajoana

Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Thursday asked the Congress party not to oppose the commutation of the death sentence of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana into life imprisonment, saying nothing should be done to vitiate the atmosphere during the year long celebrations of 550th Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.

In a statement here, form MP Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra said it was condemnable that the Congress party wanted to not only revive the past, but was also inciting sentiments by making provocative statements on the occasion of the 550th Parkash Purb when a most peaceful and congenial atmosphere had been created in the State with the blessings of Guru Sahab”.

Prof Chandumajra said the Congress should accept the healing touch applied by the NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi following appeals of the SAD and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). “The decision is also in keeping with the sentiments of the Sikh community and is designed to assuage their hurt sentiments following the series of attacks on their religious institutions as well as human right excesses by the Congress governments at the centre and the State. https://www.ptcnews.tv/punjab-deepika-padukone-ranveer-singh-offers-prayer-at-golden-temple-amritsar/

We must not forget that thousands of innocent Sikh youth were killed as part of the State sponsored terror unleashed by the Congress government led by Beant Singh. The commutation of Bhai Rajoana’s sentence and the release of Sikh prisoners languishing in jails after the completion of their sentences seek to apply balm to the aggrieved psyche of the Sikh community. We should let this closure take place instead of trying to aggravate the situation”, he added.

Calling for a fresh start and urging the Congress party not to create any further bitterness in the Sikh community, Prof Chandumajra said the Congress should not try to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the State by taking to protests on this issue. He said Congress mp Ravneet Bittu who was leading this protest should rethink of the long term effects this ill advised move would have on the State. “Punjab has passed through more than a decade of turbulence. The Congress should not do anything which harms its peace and takes the State back to the dark ages” he added. -PTC News
