SAD asks Speaker to accept adjournment motion on complete farm loan waiver for farmers and labourers

Chandigarh, June 15 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) today asked Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP to accept adjournment motion on complete farm loan waiver for farmers and labourers and urged him to allow this motion in the interest of Punjab and Punjabis. Stating that farmers were passing through a crisis in Punjab due to the inability of the Congress government to provide succor in the form of a complete farm loan waiver as promised, the SAD said this issue was of ultimate importance and that all other issues should be kept aside to debate it. Senior SAD leader Ajit Singh Kohar wrote to the Speaker asking him to reconsider the motion, which was resubmitted to his office today, saying farmers were losing their lives every day with as many as 75 suicides occurring in the State ever since the Congress took over the reins of the State. He said increasing suicides as well as failure of the government to implement the loan waiver promise could lead to a dangerous situation. “We must resolve this problem before this happens”, he said while urging the Speaker to list the adjournment motion for debate tomorrow. The adjournment motion was re-submitted to the Speakers office under the signatures of Gurpartap Singh Wadala and Baldev Singh Khara of the SAD and Arun Narang of the BJP. The legislators said urged the Speaker to accept it forthwith so that the voice of farmers and labourers could be heard in the Vidhan Sabha. Meanwhile the SAD-BJP also wrote to the Speaker formally to bring the abusive and derogatory behavior of Local Bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu to his notice. The letter by senior SAD leader Ajit Singh Kohar and Som Prakash of the BJP said contrary to what was being claimed by Sidhu, the minister had used abusive words in the august house and should be punished for the same. The SAD-BJP asked the Speaker to form a house committee to look into the entire matter. It also asked the Speaker to provide a recording of Sidhu’s speech to the Committee so that it could recommend appropriate action against him. It also asked to Speaker to direct Sidhu not to attend the Vidhan Sabha till the complaint against him was not adjudicated upon. —PTC News
