SAD condemns Congress govt for removing Sant Seechewal as member of PPCB   The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today condemned the Congress government for removing noted environmentalist and Padamshri Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal as member of the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and said it was especially painful that the religious personality who had rejuvenated the Kali Bein rivulet associated with Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji had been insulted in such a manner on the 550th Parkashpurb of the great saint.   SAD condemns Congress govt                         SAD condemns Congress govt   In a statement here, former minister and SAD spokesperson Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said Sant Seechewal had carved out a name for himself combining self help philosophy with the environmental essence of Gurbani. “He should have been selected for special honour during celebrations of the 550th Parkashpurb of Baba Nanak as he has cleaned and rejuvenated the Kali Bein. Instead of doing this the Congress government has insulted Sant Seechewal and all right thinking environmentalists by removing him as member of the PPCB”, he added. SAD condemns Congress govt Dr Cheema said the Punjab government was in urgent need of Sant Seechawal’s expertise not only to clean its rivers but also its village ponds. He said however it seemed that the government was in no mood to even listen to constructive criticism. He said Sant Seechewal was known to speak his mind and had spoken out against pollution of the Beas river and death of thousands of fishes after industrial effluents were let off by a sugar mill associated with Paramjit Singh Sarna, the Religious Advisor of Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh.   The Akali leader said the State’s bid to clean its village ponds by using the Seechewal method would also suffer with the Sant not being associated with the PPCB. “It is unfortunate that while many other States have adopted the Seechewal method to clean its rivers and ponds. Even former President APJ Abdul Kalam has cited this method to rejuvenate rivers. It is unfortunate that the Congress government is humiliating and insulting a visionary who has received worldwide accolades for the work done by him”, he added.   Stating that the environment movement in Punjab would also suffer after Seechewal’s removal from the PPCB, Dr Cheema said there was an urgent need to broad base the movement by involving more volunteers. “All right thinking individuals however will think twice before associating with the Congress government on environmental matters”, he added.   Dr Cheema asked the Congress government to immediately reinstate Sant Seechewal as member of PPCB, saying this was necessary to encourage public trust in environment protection activities being taken up by the Pollution Board. - PTC News-
