SAD reminds Speaker it had submitted complaint demanding disqualification of four MLAs after they resigned from AAP

Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday reminded Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker that the party had submitted a complaint demanding the disqualification of four legislators, including Nazar Singh Manshahia, who had resigned from the primary membership of Aam Aadmi Party besides joining Congress and other political outfits. SAD legislature party leader Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said in a statement that it was shocking that Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana K P Singh had stayed disqualification proceedings against former AAP legislator Naazar Singh Manshahia. He had stated that Manshahia had not submitted his resignation in proper format and that no complaint had been submitted against him. Dhillon said that action had also been deferred against Baldev Singh and Amarjit Sandoa even as the proceedings under anti-defection law against Sukhpal Singh Khaira were proceeding at a snail’s pace. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon stated that SAD legislators had met the Speaker on September 11, 2019. He submitted a written complaint against four legislators and not only demanded their disqualification for violating The Representation of Peoples Act but also their disqualification from contesting elections for remaining term of the 15th Vidhan Sabha. Calling the issue as plain and simple, Sharanjit Dhillon said that the 10th schedule of the constitution stated “a member of a House belonging to any political party shall be disqualified for being a member of the House if he has given up his membership of such a political party.” He added that since all four MLAs had resigned as primary membership of AAP, the constitutional provision had being subverted. Sharanjit Dhillon also said that the high office of Speaker should remain above politics. Meanwhile, Dillon added that the delay in taking action against four legislators as per constitutional norms was leading to all sorts of aspersions being case on the office of the Speaker. “I request to take urgent steps to ensure the reputation of the August House is not besmirched,” he said. https://www.ptcnews.tv/madhya-pradesh-boy-hangs-himself-in-mandsaur-bhagat-singh-hanging-en/ While giving further details, Dhillon said that in the case of Nazar Singh Manshahia, the MLA had joined Congress on April 25, 2019 and also announced that he had submitted his resignation in proper format and released a copy of the same. In the case of Amarjit Sandoa, there were pictures of him standing with the Speaker and Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh while announcing that he had joined the Congress party, Dhillon said. “Both Sukhpal Khaira and Baldev Singh left their party and formed new political outfit called Punjab Ekta Party (PEP) and even contested Lok Sabha elections 2019 on the symbol of the new party. All this is part of public record,” he added. -PTC News
