SAD Manifesto Committee confers with Kisan leaders The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Election Manifesto Committee today conferred with Kisan wing organizations and representatives to take their feedback in preparation of the party manifesto for the forthcoming parliamentary poll. Disclosing this here, Committee Member Secretary Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said in today’s meeting, which was the second meeting of the Manifesto Committee; the members took feedback from Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) president Balbir Singh Rajewal and former Mandi Board Chairman Ajmer Singh Lakhowal. SAD Manifesto Committee confers with Kisan leaders SAD Manifesto Committee confers with Kisan leaders Dr Cheema disclosed that both Kisan leaders gave a detailed account of how the Congress government had reneged on its promise to waive off farmer loans of Rs 90,000 crore taken from nationalized and cooperative banks as well as private money lenders. The leaders said this had resulted in a huge number of farmer suicides in the last twenty months of Congress rule. “The kisan leaders also told the committee that the Congress had also betrayed the families of the suicide victims who had not been provided the promised Rs 10 lakh relief”. He said the farm economy was in doldrums in Punjab because of the wrong polices of the Congress government. Mr Maluka said the government had dealt a severe blow to diversification by withholding the dues of sugarcane farmers for more than one year. He said similarly the government had failed to come to the aid of potato farmers forcing farmers to go in for distress sale of their crop. The Kisan wing president said the Congress government had even failed to distribute compensation of paddy crop damage suffered by farmers one year back. The Manifesto Committee has decided to meet representatives from other sections of society in its next meeting which has been fixed for February 2 as part of its drive to interact with all stake holders before framing the party manifesto.
