SAD MLA exposes hollow claims of Congress govt on the construction of major roads

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) legislator Harinderpal Singh Chandumajra on Wednesday exposed the hollow claims of the Congress government on the construction of two key roads stating that the Congress government had deliberately not sent complete DPRs (Detailed Project Reports) for the Patiala – Kurukshetra and the Banga – Garhshankar roads, which had been declared national highways during the SAD-BJP tenure. While raising this issue, the SAD legislator said that he had asked when the work would start on the Patiala – Kurukshetra road after it was declared a national highway. “Former PWD minister Razia Sultana had admitted that the road had been declared a national highway and that the department was preparing a DPR which would be ready and submitted in 2018-19”. Chandumajra said to his shock that when he asked the same question again on February 27 this year the present PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla said the road had not been declared a national highway. Chandumajra added that the Banga – Garshankar road had been declared a national highway but the DPR was not sent in time because of which it was removed from the priority list. “It seems that the Congress government has deliberately stopped work on both projects because they were approved during the SAD-BJP tenure “, he added. He said a SAD delegation had met the Jal Shakti minister in this regard and the National Green Tribunal had also reacted to the issue. He said it was unfortunate that the Punjab government was not doing anything to check industrial units of the area who were not using ETPs and STPs installed to treat industrial effluents before they were released from their factories.
