SAD president urges Sikh community to adhere to Akal Takth jathedar's appeal on gurdwara Gian Godri issue

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today urged the Sikh community to adhere to the call of Sri Akal Takth jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh to recite Japuji Sahab and Ardas at their nearest gurdwara on May 14 to pray for re-uniting the land of Gurdwara Gian Godri Sahab at Haridwar with the Sikh Sangat. In a statement here, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal said the the Sri Akal Takth jathedar had made this appeal following a request to this effect by a joint delegation of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC). Urging for complete unity on this issue, Mr Badal said all Sikhs should sink differences and collect on a common platform on this noble issue. "It is our earnest desire that the Sikh place of worship should be reestablished at its original place". He also urged the Damdami Taksal, Nihang Singh organisaions, Nirmale Samparda, Nanaksar Samparda, Sabha Societies and other Sikh organisations to come together for this cause. The SAD president said the gurdwara, associated with Guru Nanak Dev, was built near Har Ki Pauri, embankment of the Ganga in Uttarakhand and demolished in 1978-79. The space is presently ccupied by an office of Scouts and Guides. Mr Badal said the SAD would also take up the issue with the Uttarakhand government and work to resolve this issue and ensure the land was restored to the Sikh Sangat. — PTC News
