SAD to Election Commission: deploy para-military forces in Shahkot bypoll Ahead of Shahkot bypoll scheduled on May 28, Shiromani Akali Dal submitted a memorandum demanded immediate deployment of para-military forces and video-graphy of all polling booths to ensure ensure free and fair environment during the elections. 'We have repeatedly requested you for development of para-military forces at all the polling booths as well as video-graphy of all the polling booths of 32- Shahkot assembly constituency. But we have not received any confirmation about the decision which the Hon'ble ECI has taken in the regard.' the memorandum from SAD to Chief Election Commissioner said. We again submit that misuse of government machinery has crossed all the limits. SAD to Election Commission: deploy para-military forces in Shahkot bypoll It further said, 'The leaders of the ruling Congress party including the incumbent Ministers are using all type of pressure tactics to threaten our supports as well as voters of the constituency. The people of the area are under grave stress and strain. We fear that the movement our poll campaigns will move out of constituency after 5:00 PM on May 26. 2018 they will reign a wave of terror on out voters and supporters.' 'The state police is not capable to counter the ruling party leaders an well as Ministers. We also fear that Congress leaders will not move out of constituency and will keep on threatening our voters and supporters,' SAD leaders said. SAD to Election Commission: deploy para-military forces in Shahkot bypoll 'So, the only way to ensure free and fair environment once the campaign periods ends is to deploy para-military forces and 100% video-graphy of all polling booths. We want to express our worst fears that if both our demands are not met, then there are 100% chances of rigging and booth capturing,' the memorandum added. 'The utmost importance at the time is to save the democracy, people's faith in the system should not fade at any cost. They should get a fair chance to choose their leader,' said SAD Leader Daljit Singh Cheema. -PTC News
