SAD urges ECI to declare Bathinda LS constituency as hyper sensitive and deploy paramilitary forces The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today requested the Election Commission of India (ECI) to declare the Bathinda parliamentary constituency as hyper sensitive and deploy paramilitary forces to thwart the Congress party from indulging in unfair means including misusing the police force to secure a win from this high profile seat. He said the top leadership of the Punjab Congress including chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Finance minister Manpreet Badal were using unfair means to take revenge for their disgraceful defeats as the CM’s son Raninder Singh and FM Manpreet Badal lost to Mrs Badal in the 2009 and 2014 parliamentary elections respectively.

He said the CM & FM were hell bent upon intimidating the voters to support the Congress party. “The local police are stopping SAD leaders/workers from even campaigning at the behest of ruling party”, he added. Accusing Congress candidate Raja Warring of calling his supporters across the country to create ruckus on the polling day as well as counting day, Dr. Cheema said there were a total of 1729 booths in the constituency out of which 559 had been declared as sensitive by the district administration. “If one third booths are under the direct control of the State government then it definitely makes this constituency a fit case for deployment of paramilitary forces”. He said the latest biased action of the local police took place May 08, 2019, when Baljit Singh Daduwal along with hundreds of supporters gheraoed the house of S. Parkash Singh Badal, former chief minister of Punjab, S. Sukhbir Singh Badal, SAD president and Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, union minister of India. “All those troublemakers were removed from the spot only after intervention of the Election Commission as the local police did not take any action against them. “Instead it helped them to cross police barricades to facilitate their stage managed protest in a high security area”. Demanding immediate deployment of paramilitary forces in the Bathinda parliamentary constituency to ensure free and fair elections, Dr. Cheema said the State police was least expected to act fairly in the upcoming parliamentary elections as it was working under the pressure of the ruling party.EOM
