Samyukta Kisan Morcha writes to PM Narendra Modi to resume talks

Farmers protest: Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of over 40 protesting farmer unions, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urged him to resume talks over the controversial farm laws. In the letter to PM Narendra Modi, Samyukta Kisan Morcha said that the onus of resuming a sincere dialogue with the farmers lies with the Union government. The last round of meetings between the government and the farmers was held on January 22 which remained inconclusive. However, no meeting took place after the January 26 farmers’ tractor rally in Delhi that turned violent. The farmers' body stated that it has written a letter to the Prime Minister, asking for the resumption of talks with farmers over farm laws. Acknowledging the outbreak of COVID-19, the SKM stated that while protesting farmers do not wish to expose anyone to the pandemic, they cannot give up on the struggle. It was a matter of life and death, and also of future generations, it stated. Farmers protest: Samyukta Kisan Morcha in a letter to PM Narendra Modi, urged him to resume talks over the controversial farm laws. The letter further stated that "As the Head of the government of the largest democracy in the world, the onus of resuming a serious and sincere dialogue with the farmers lies with you." The development comes after the farmers’ body announced it would observe May 26 as ‘black day’ marking six months of farmers' protest at Delhi borders.
