Sanitation workers in Panchkula continued their strike for the third day on Monday. The workers in the entire city have put their work on hold against the non-fulfilment of their demands. Due to this strike, Panchkula Municipal Corporation’s initiative to raise its rank in the Smart City survey was badly hit.
As the strike of sanitation workers continue today also, heaps of garbage could be seen at the garbage collection centres. The dustbins for wet and dry garbage placed by MC outside government offices and in markets were full and the waste was lying there only.
Sanitation Employees Union President Joginder Singh told the media that they would hold an indefinite strike. Also, they would also hold a protest at the designated place in Sector 5 in the city if MC failed to fulfil their demands. Their demands include equal pay for equal work.
MC Administrator Rajesh Jogpal, when asked about the situation, told that the MC has already pressed staff and JCB machines to the service. He further said that the situation would be normal by tomorrow.
