SC Scholarship scam: Punjab Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot has been given a clean chit in the SC Scholarship case, by a high-level team investigating the alleged multi-crore scam in the disbursal of funds under the SC Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme.
A three-member investigation panel, constituted by the Punjab Chief Secretary, Vini Mahajan, pointed out that nothing substantial was found regarding the alleged interference of Sadhu Singh Dharamsot in the disbursal of scholarship funds and transfer of Rs 39 crore into the “ghost accounts”.
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had ordered a probe after an inquiry report submitted by a former Additional Chief Secretary had questioned the role of Cabinet Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot in the alleged SC scholarship scam.
Later, a three-member panel was constituted by Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan to probe the matter.
The panel, comprising IAS officers Jaspal Singh, KAP Sinha and Vivek Partap Singh, with comments by the Chief Secretary, recently submitted its report to Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
The Cabinet minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot was also accused of shielding officials, including a Deputy Director, involved in the SC scholarship scam.
As per reports, the probe panel had found the wrong payment of over Rs 7 crore to private educational institutions. It has been learned that the role of a former Director, Social Welfare, and Congress MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, in allowing the re-audit, had not been questioned.
