A 50-year-old woman, Saroj was killed while four of the family members, were injured in a fire incident that occurred at a Sector 19 house in Cheap Housing Colony.
Her body was found at the entrance door when a fire team entered the house. Her daughter Usha sustained 65 per cent burn injuries, was admitted to the PGI. Usha’s son Arpit, her father and grandmother were also injured and were rushed to the GMCH, Sector 32.
The reason behind the fire incident is unknown. However, neighbours said there used to be routine fights among the family members; so much that police was also called once.
The police said from the inspection of the site it appeared that the fire had taken place in the house due to some inflammable material poured inside the house and not due to a cylinder blast.
“Facts are being verified from the neighbourhood also. A team has been sent to record the statement of the victims,” said a police official.
“I was sitting in my house and heard the sound of breaking of glass. I called up the PCR and the fire station number, but both did not work. Then I rushed to the nearby police station in Sector 19 to inform the police,” a neighbour, VB Khanna said.
