Sensex falls over 100 points ahead of Budget day

Sensex falls over 100 points ahead of Budget day, IT stocks depreciate: The BSE Sensex depreciated by over 124 points, subsequently going below the 36,000-mark in early session today as investors preferred to reduce their positions ahead of the Union Budget to be presented tomorrow. The 30-share index fell by 124.28 points or 0.34 per cent at 35,909.45 in the opening session as consumer durables, capital goods, IT, healthcare and tech stocks dropped. Sensex had depreciated 249.52 points in the previous session. While Nifty was trading lower by 38.95 points, or 0.35 per cent, at 11,010.70. IT stocks witnessed profit booking after recent gains. Infosys, Wipro, TCS fell between 0.70-1.20 per cent. Among Nifty50 stocks, Coal India was the top loser as it went down 2.08 per cent followed by HUL, Dr Reddy's Lab, Lupin and ONGC fell between 1.5-1.8 per cent. Meanwhile, Vedanta, IOC, Hero MotoCorp, Kotak Mahindra were the other prominent gainers on the Nifty. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended sharply lower by 1.37 per cent yesterday. -PTC News
