Ramayan breaks records, becomes most-watched show in the world

Ramanand Sagar’s mythological series 'Ramayan' has become the most-watched entertainment show in the world. It has broken records as it garnered 7.7 crore viewers on April 16, the national broadcaster Doordarshan said in a tweet on Thursday. Doordarshan has been broadcasting the iconic shows ever since India went into a nationwide lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Soon after the lockdown was announced, there were many social media users who demanded the airing of 'Ramayan', prompting the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to take note. Based on Lord Ram’s life, Ramayan was originally broadcasted for the first time in the country from January 25, 1987, to July 31, 1988. Then, every Sunday, at 9.30 a.m. Ramayan was aired on TV. From 1987 to 1988, Ramayan became the most-watched serial in the world. Till June 2003, it remained in the Limca Book of Records as “the most-watched mythological serial in the world”. 'Ramayana' to be aired again on TV Coronavirus It had attained a cult status. It featured Arun Govil in the role of Lord Ram and Deepika Chikhaliya in the role of Sita. It was presented under the banner of Sagar Arts.
