Serum Institute fixes price of Covishield in private, state govt hospitals
Serum Institute Covishield price: The Serum Institute of India (SII) on Wednesday fixed the price of COVID-19 vaccine Covishield at Rs 600 per dose for private hospitals and Rs 400 per dose for state governments, the company said in a statement.
The Serum Institute of India stated that it will serve 50 percent of the total production to the Government of India's vaccination drive and the remaining 50 percent for the State governments and private hospitals.

"Serum Institute of India (SII), welcomes the recent announcement made by Government of India’s Ministry of Health and Finance Ministry to accelerate India’s vaccination drive. The promising directives will help to scale up vaccine production, and allow state governments, private hospitals, and vaccination centers to procure vaccines directly," it stated.
"Furthermore, owing to the complexity, and urgency of the situation it is challenging to supply it independently to each corporate entity. We would urge all corporate and private individuals to access the vaccines through the state-facilitated machinery and private health systems. Post 4-5 months, the vaccines will be made available in retail and free trade," it added.

It may be recalled that the central government has recently approved around Rs 4,500 crore as advance to vaccine manufacturers like SII and Bharat Biotech to boost the production amid a record spike in coronavirus cases.
The Serum Institute of India's COVID-19 vaccine Covishield was the first vaccine to be approved by the Government of India.
Meanwhile, the government has stated that everyone above 18 years of age will be eligible to get vaccinated from May 1.
