SGPC to take special jatha to Pakistan to mark centenary of Saka Panja Sahib

Chandigarh, May 27: To mark the centenary (100 years) of Saka Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib (now in Pakistan) that took place on October 30, 1922, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to take a special jatha of pilgrims to Pakistan, besides organising a special 'Gurmat Samagam' (religious congregation) at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall, Amritsar. At a meeting of the Centenary Committee that was presided over by SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, it was decided to organise 'Gurmat Samagams' both in India and Pakistan, prepare and distribute booklets/literature in different languages on the martyrs of Saka Sri Panja Sahib and conduct religious competitions dedicated to this centenary in schools and colleges. "A special jatha of pilgrims on behalf of the SGPC will participate in the centenary congregations to be held in Pakistan. For discussion on the congregations to be organised in Pakistan, a delegation will also be sent there to hold meetings with the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and the department concerned there", said Advocate Dhami. SGPC to take special jatha to Pakistan to mark centenary of Saka Panja Sahib He said visa fees and other expenses of the pilgrims would be borne by the SGPC's Dharam Prachar Committee. A two-day Gurmat Samagam would also be dedicated to Saka Sri Panja Sahib and organised at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall, Amritsar, on October 29 and 30 in which prominent personalities would participate. A similar 'samagam' will also be held at Sri Anandpur Sahib on October 22. The SGPC president said the first centenary of 'Guru Ka Bagh Morcha' would also be marked on a large scale with a samagam at Gurdwara Guru Ka Bagh, Ghukewali, Amritsar on August 30, 2022. A historical painting exhibition dedicated to the centenary would also be specially prepared, in which the contemporary events would be depicted through paintings. He added that documentaries would also be produced on the history of Gurdwara Guru Ka Bagh and Saka Sri Panja Sahib.
