Shiromani Akali Dal, on Thursday, joined the initiative to paint Sultanpur Lodhi white for celebrations of the 550th Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. After offering prayers at Gurudwara Ber Sahib, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Bikram Majithia wielded paintbrushes. Former Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal, SGPC President Gobind Singh Longowal and other SAD leaders were also present on the occasion.
Addressing media persons, Sukhbir Singh Badal said, “after offering prayers at Gurudwara Ber Sahib, we took blessings of our ancestors, the Sikh Sangat, and elders. Thereafter, we started the selfless service of painting Sultanpur Lodhi white.” The SAD President said the service would be a harbinger of divine blessings and exhorted both party workers and the Sikh Sangat to participate.
Elaborating on the time and material required, he said the work would take around one and a half months to complete and around 1.5 lakh liters of paint would be used to paint 1 crore square ft. area, including 3,500 houses. He also urged everyone to participate in the effort and contribute both financially and physically. On being asked about the role of the state government, he said this is not a political issue but a divine service rendered in love and faith.
