Simarjit Singh Bains challenges FIR , moves Punjab and Haryana High Court on rape charges
Punjab: In a major development, a case has been registered against the Lok Insaf Party president and MLA Simarjit Singh Bains on rape charges in Ludhiana on Monday. Challenging the Ludhiana district court order to register FIR against him, Simarjit Singh Bains had moved to Punjab and Haryana High Court last Friday. On Monday, the High Court issued notice to the complainant woman and the Punjab Police seeking their response. The hearing is scheduled to be held on July 15. Also Read | Petrol prices in India hiked again, diesel rates down for first time in 3 months According to the information, a case has been registered against Simarjit Bains under sections 376, 354, 354-A, 506, and 120B of the Indian Penal Code on Monday on directions of Ludhiana district court. Seven people, including MLA Bains, have been named in the FIR. It also includes the name of other accused — Kamaljit Singh, Baljinder Kaur, Jasbir Kaur alias Bhabhi, Sukhchain Singh, Paramjit Singh alias Pamma, Gogi Sharma of Ludhiana. On the other hand, Shiromani Akali Dal has been protesting and demanding the arrest of Simarjit Bains. Recently, the Ludhiana court, on a petition filed by a woman alleging rape, has ordered the registration of an FIR against Bains in the case. The 45-year-old woman from Ludhiana had alleged that Simarjit Bains had not only raped her but also threatened her to harm her two sons if she lodged a complaint with the police. -PTC News
