New Delhi, July 18: Pro-Khalistan leader Simranjit Singh Mann on Monday reposed faith in the Constitution as he took oath of office as Sangrur MP. He took the oath in the office of Speaker Om Birla.
Simranjit Singh Mann took oath in Punjabi and said "he affirmed faith in the Constitution". He also vowed to work for the betterment of Sangrur and its people.
Interestingly, 'kirpan', which is Simranjit Singh Mann's trademark kirpan was missing this time, though in the past he had insisted on carrying 'kirpan' to Parliament.
He represented Sangrur in 1999 too
Simranjit Singh Mann had represented Sangrur in 1999 also. He defeated AAP’s Gurmail Singh in the Sangrur Lok Sabha by-election recently and won by over 5,800 votes.
Mann is a former police official. He had quit the job after Operation Bluestar in 1984 and had registered a huge win in the 1989 general election in absentia.
Simranjit Singh Mann had won from Tarn Taran by a margin of over 4.6 lakh votes. However, he had then refused to enter Parliament without kirpan.
