Smriti Mandhana issues apology to Indian cricket fans after T20 World Cup final loss

Indian opener Smriti Mandhana on Wednesday issued an apology to the cricket fans in the country after India failed to clinch its maiden ICC title at the recently-concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2020. After going unbeaten in the group stage and reaching to final after a washout in the semifinal against England, the Indian eves were defeated by Australia by 85 runs at the Melbourne cricket ground on March 8, which was also the International Women's Day. Smriti Mandhana took to Instagram and wrote: "I would like to thank all those who filled the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on March 8 and the billions who supported us throughout. Really sorry that the results didn't go in our favor but I'm overwhelmed by the support that we've been receiving and that kind of support is what keeps us going." She further said that "I also wanted to take a moment to appreciate the efforts and the hard work the entire team and support staff have put in throughout this world cup. Really proud of this young team and I promise you all on behalf of my team that we will definitely work harder and come back stronger. Jai Hind."
