Advertisment
Facebook has started testing use of Aadhaar details while creating a new account on the social network which the company says is a way to counter fake accounts. Some users have spotted the new Aadhaar prompt while trying to create a new Facebook account. It comes when you try to join the site from a mobile browser. The page will ask for the user name and there will be a prompt on the top of the page which says, "Using the name on your Aadhaar card makes it easier for friends to recognise you." Soon your Facebook account may require your Aadhaar details The social network currently has 2 billion monthly users worldwide and the Indian market has one of the most number of users. It will be interesting to see whether Facebook mandates its users in India to add their details. We don't expect this to become a reality as the social media site may face a backlash from users in India with concerns of data leak through addition of Aadhaar details on the platform. -PTC News-
