IPL 2020 Title Sponsorship: Days after the Chinese firm VIVO decided to withdraw the title sponsorship from the Indian Premier League, the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly stated that it is not a financial crisis.
In 2015, Vivo replaced Pepsico, who also pulled out as the IPL’s title sponsors 2 years before the contract ended. In 2017, Vivo bagged the IPL title sponsorship until the end of the 2022 season, paying around USD 241 million.
The BCCI is yet to announce how it would find a replacement for Vivo for IPL 2020. The 13th edition of IPL is scheduled to commence on September 19. In the meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly said that the board was well prepared to handle the situation.
Ganguly, while speaking during a webinar on Saturday, organized by Learnflix, an education app in India, said that “I wouldn’t call it as a financial crisis.” “It’s just a little bit of a blip. And the only way you can do it is by being professionally strong over a period of time. Big things don’t come overnight. And big things don’t go away overnight,” he added.
He further said that “Your preparation for a long period of time gets (you) ready for losses, gets you ready for successes,” Sourav Ganguly was quoted as saying by ESPMcricinfo.
