South Africa returnee tests Covid positive in Chandigarh, sample to be sent for genome sequencing
Amid concerns over Omicron variant first reported from South Africa, a 39-year-old man from Sector 36 in Chandigarh, who returned from South Africa recently, has tested positive for Covid-19. As per reports, his wife and help have also tested positive for Covid-19. While the report of one family member is still awaited, two others have tested negative as of now. Although his RT-PCR test was conducted at the airport on arrival as per the protocol, the report came as negative. His sample was retaken on Monday, which came as positive. As per the Chandigarh health authorities, the the patient and his family members have been shifted to the isolation ward at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32.
