Sub-inspector shoots self outside UP Assembly, dies

In a shocking incident, a police sub-inspector allegedly shot himself dead in a parking lot before the Uttar Pradesh Assembly complex on Thursday. The Sub-inspector has been identified as Nirmal Choubey.

Choubey has left behind a suicide note in which he stated that he was ill and that the police is looking into the matter.

Commissioner of Police, D K Thakur, said SI Nirmal Kumar Choubey (53) from Banthra PS was deputed at Gate no. 7 of State Assembly.

He had a bullet injury in his chest. A suicide note has been recovered from him. The note stated, “I am ill. I’m leaving behind my wife and children”.

He was deployed on duty in the parking lot near Uttar Pradesh Assembly where he shot himself with his service revolver at around 3.30 PM.

Meanwhile, the police took him to the nearby Civil Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries during the treatment.

According to the CCTV recovered from the spot shows that Chaubey was alone at the time of the incident. Reportedly, the Sub Inspector in his letter pleaded with the Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath to look after his family.
