Sukhbir Badal celebrates SOI's victory at PU, reminisces old days

 Chandigarh, September 17: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal, who received a rousing welcome from students of the Panjab University today, addressed all their major concerns by earmarking two shuttle buses, a world class gym for girl students and a solar heating system for all hostels.

                Mr. Sukhbir Badal's speech on the occasion of the oath taking ceremony of the Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC)) in which the Students Organization of India (SOI) led alliance swept the elections, was interspersed with enthusiastic clapping by the students. Not only did Mr Badal regale the students by talking about his University days, but also assured them the Punjab government would address all their concerns expeditiously.


Mr. Badal said it was a matter of pride for him that Panjab University was among the foremost varsities in the country and that he had attained his economics degree from it. He said the University was known to be a cradle of leaders and that the Panjab government was also keen to channelise the energy of its youth for development of the development of the State.

Elaborating on the measures being contemplated for the welfare of the student community, Mr Badal announced the State would provide two shuttle buses for travel of the students from one campus to another. Besides this he also announced the government would establish a world class gym for girl students. He also said the government would near the cost for installation of solar water heating system in all hostels in the varsity.

Outlining his vision for the student community while addressing the mammoth gathering of the students, S. Badal also congratulated the SOI, INSO, HIMSU and NSO alliance for making a clean sweep in the elections, S. Badal announced that he is ready to provide every facility for the welfare and betterment of the student community.

Elaborating on the achievements of the Punjab Government, S. Badal said Punjab had become a power surplus state. He also divulged that the State Government plans to connect every major city of the state with 4-6 lane expressways by the end of next year. He said Punjab would be the lone state to have each one of its villages connected with 4G and schools in every village would be equipped with the WI-FI facility. He also said that Infosys is building a campus in Mohali in which 25000 students would receive education in I.T. He said Mohali would soon emerge as a hub of Information Technology (I.T.) in the next 5 years.

Speaking about the State's achievements on the power front, Mr Badal informed the State Government had taken Kabaddi to new heights by organizing world cups. Disclosing more, he said that the Punjab Institute of Sports would soon admit 4000 students and the entire cost of their study and training would be borne by the State Government.

Before this, the Dean Students Welfare (Women) Professor Nandita administered the oath of office to the newly elected President Jasmeen Kang (SOI), Vice President Preeti Negi, General Secretary Rishi Bhardwaj, Joint Secretary Swati Tiwana and Executive and Department Representatives.
