Jallianwala Bagh : Amarinder tried to reduce the national and global Jallianwala Bagh event to a PPCC affair " what was your objection to joining the national homage organised by the country's govt?" Sukhbir Singh Badal lashes out at Amarinder for trying to turn Jallianwala Bagh Centenary into a state event Bathinda: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal today lashed out against what he called " Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh's ugly attempts to turn a solemn national event like the centenary of the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy by trying to reduce it to a state-level event. In a hard hitting statement, Mr Badal said that it was shocking that by refusing to be a part of the national event organised by the govt of India, Captain Amarinder Singh had the audacity to refuse to join the rest of the nation in paying homage to the great martyrs who gave a decisive turn to the freedom movement by laying down their lives for the country. Instead, Captain tried desperately to reduce an event of global significance to a mere state level event. " The Jallianwala Bagh tragedy had shocked the conscience of the whole world. It is much much more than an event merely of A state or the state govt "Are you really not aware or do you really not want to acknowledge that Jallianwala Bagh is an iconic symbol of freedom movements all over the world and is much larger in historical magnitude than being just an issue concerning merely a state. Read Also: Victim families file complaint against Navjot Singh Sidhu and his wife Was it not only befitting that that the Govt of the whole country was observing it and was coming over to pay reverence to the martyrs ? Was it not a matter of pride for us that the entire country and all our countrymen were joining Punjabis in saluting the sons of Punjab who courted martyrdom so that the countrymen may live as free citizens? asked Mr Badal, adding that instead of sharing Punjabis pride that the whole country and the country's govt were paying their respects to our martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy, Captain Singh 'acted petty and set up a parallel function merely for cheap electoral mileage. This is disgraceful indeed. Or was he really not aware that the govt of India was observing it as an iconic national event? In a pointed question to the CM, Mr Badal asked," what was your objection to the event being observed by the whole country's govt? What was your logic and compulsion except petty politics in reducing it to a PPCC affair by organising a parallel event of smaller historic significance in comparison with the massive emotional symbolism of the nation's representative govt observing it as a national event ? Can you give one good reason for not joining the rest of the country represented by its elected govt in paying homage to martyrs?" asked Mr Badal also wondering what was the point in Amarinder insisting on treating it merely as a state level event and organising a state level function when he knew that the Govt of India was observing it to pay the country's homage to national martyrs The SAD chief said that the same Amarinder Singh would have criticised the central govt if they had not observed it through a national level function. -PTC News-
