Sukhna water level up, reported higher than 2012

Sukhna water level up to 1,160.40 ft: As per records of the last five years, Sukhna Lake Chandigarh hits the highest water level. Post heavy showers yesterday in the tricity and nearby areas, the water level was in the lake recorded at 1,160.40 ft. Ever since 2012, the lake had suffered a shortage of water. It was 1,160.30 ft in 2012. Officials said they were happy with an increase in the water level. The water level of the lake was recorded at 1153.25 ft on July 27. Flood gates will be opened if the water level touches 1163 mark. Experts said with the lake reaching the high water level, chances of it drying are decreasing for the next two three years. Further increase in the water level is expected. One more shower like 21 Aug and the Lake is good to be. The low water level in the lake has been a cause for concerns and it was under the scanner of the High Court. The Administration has already restricted boating at the Lake. The High Court had constituted a high-powered committee to chalk out alternative way to bring additional water to the Sukhna. The cleaning of the catchment area was started by Haryana and Chandigarh. -PTC News
